Ivan, it sounds soooooooo good.

It's funny to me - I do scare lot of sound people. Dirty looks while I'm setting up, snide comments regarding loudness, etc.. I have to remind them it's pretty much the SAME speaker area as an 810 and that the volume knob on my amp works. A bassist using the volume knob appropriately- it's like it's a concept many of them have never experienced.

It’s not just the sound though. Not tone wood. Actual mechanics
The actual mechanical maintained tension from an AB compared to other models and is it model design or component properties.

Interesting... I have a DROC Custom 5 on order to check out the wenge neck/FB for myself plus it comes with Alnico FDV pickups instead of the FD3-N, which should have a bit warmer tone, and you can get any color you like with matching headstock. The downside is that it's a one year wait and it costs twice as much ($4200) which is more than I want to spend. I'm a bit conflicted as to whether the tonal and cosmetic upgrades are worth that much time and money or I'd be fine with a DROC Standard 5. The tone in this DROC video by Amos Heller is awesome at showcasing what this instrument can do and I love the fact that it's not all clank and distortion. I don't play anywhere near his level, but if I could get close to some of the tones he gets I'd be totally satisfied with it.

fwiw...I've got a D-Bird standard (4). Absolutely. Love. It.

Whatever DROC flavor you decide on, it's gonna be good! :thumbsup:

Second that! The import Dbird does everything I’d ever need it to do. I love the bridge pup. This was my first import Dingwall and I was blown away at the quality.

I’m seeing used Drocs in the $1400-1700 range. That’s huge bang for the buck. You could even send it out for a custom paint job, and you’d still have it sooner and for less.

They don’t have all the bells and whistles, no wenge neck, or custom paint, but the imports certainly get the job done with room to spare.

I purchased my first Dingwall less than a month ago. It is a D Roc Standard 5, new, import, matte blackburst or whatever their term is.

I paid $2100 Canadian for it. I cannot imagine what else I would be getting or need for double the price. While mine is a 5-er, I think it has similar tones to the 4 banger he is using. Obviously, depending on what he is running it through makes a difference. The sound of mine is HUGE. I always thought my Rics sounded big tonally but a world of difference going to the Dingwall.

FYI - I love this machine! Having been playing bass for about 44 years now, it takes a lot to get me excited about a bass or gear in general. This one does, to the point I now want a 4 string D-Roc to go with the 5-er.

I'm late to the party on this one, but I just saw some clips today of Sheldon talking about the upcoming production line Super P. As someone who is often on a budget but can afford to splash out the odd time, this is very exciting news for me. I have wanted a Super P for quite some time so the more affordable version will be very appealing :)

Agreed. It's not like any of the other Darkglass pedals I've owned (I've owned most models). To me it won't be an single pedal, but with it stacked with my Genzler 4 on the floor it makes my tone a clank machine. It's so good I'm thinking of taking my DP-3X off my board. It's that good a stack!

That's a very good point. I have it first in my chain - everything else sounds better to me with it on. I really like what it adds to my presets on the C4 and Ultrawave.

I know a lot about what I am about to ask can be personal and based on one’s needs... but I'll ask anyways since it's all opinions! lol I'm also struggling to choose between 4 or 5 strings. I am very comfortable playing both, so that doesn't help!

I have an awesome 3x LS Dingwall but have been wanting a PJ Dingwall as well. Those of you that have or have owned a PJ Dingwall, first, has it been a 5 or 4 and why?

-and if so, 'can' they cop out a vintage tone if you want one or are they still very modern, hi-fi, etc.? Would I gain much (more versatile, less, better playability, etc) from a PJ if I already have a 3x Lee Sklar?

-Would you 'recommend' a 4 string to complement what I have or is a 5 str. the way to go from a sonic/playability/future point?
