What's everyone's preference for series vs parallel on each of the pickups themselves while we're at it? The idea of changing my new FDVs to series (since the z3 would've come parallel by default, I believe) is an interesting one!

My Z is passive with coil switches. I typically run it SPS.

I also recall seeing that's how the non switch models are set up. Probably somewhere in this thread.

To my ears, if the two pickups are right next to each other, one or both needs to be in parallel to tighten it up a bit.

What did you replace the FDV's with?

Mine is a Z2 D-Roc and I put a P-Tone in the ‘middle’ spot. I never use the bridge pickup so that’s the original FDV

That might be the first 2x D-Roc that I’ve seen.

The Markham store is the one to call (you will need to call). I’m sure there are a couple dealers in Montreal as well so you should be able to find one to try fairly easily

The Markham store always has multiple Dingwalls, as well as F Bass and Fodera. I'm lucky its my local. Great staff there as well.

Does anyone here have experience with the p-tone pickup from Dingwall?
I'm looking to putting it in my NG3 since I find the neck pickup to be way too harsh in the higher frequencies.
I can't find any info on it anywhere tough.

Thanks for sharing! How does the Z neck compare to NG3? Is it really that different?

It's much thinner, and the compound radius is more noticeable than I thought it'd be. I just love it! It's overall a marvel of engineering and the art of woodworking for sure.

Are we referring to an ABZ neck or a Z? Or are both the same profile?

If so, does the AB1 also share the same profile?

The Z neck is thinner than the ABZ and ABI neck. It actually felt very odd to me at first, but I really enjoy it now that I'm used to it.

The ABZ and ABI necks feel like the same to me, but I've never owned both with the same amount of stings at the same time to compare side by side.

"Better" is probably more of a preference thing.

I typically enjoy a chonker neck. I had a 5 string NG3 and really liked that neck.

The Z neck is great too, just different. I'm not sure if the FB radius is different than a AB, that plays a part in it too.

I did order it that way yes, also saved a few $ as it was cheaper with less pickups. I believe mine was the first one with 2 pickups and maybe still the only one with that configuration. I would love a D-Roc with a single split P and think it would actually be a decent seller. I assume we’ll not see one thanks to the string spacing difference.

There is at least one other custom D-Roc out there with 2 pickups but in a jazz setup.

Pretty sure it was a decision made around the same time they revamped the SJ to not have a control plate.

I have a Z3 with a P-tone in the neck position.
It sounds like a P-Bass on drugs. It definitely has the P-vibe and feel, but due to the scale and the very modern construction it is clearer sounding.
I think of it as an evolution to a P-Bass and I like it very much. It is not a replacement for a P-Bass though.

They do have the P-Tone pickups now, so maybe that's another reason not to do the physical split P pickup on the J.

So I'm 6 months post custom order (Z), and finalizing specs. I know what I want for woods. I've been playing 3-pickup Dingwalls for about 9 years. 98% of the time I play in the jazz configuration, i.e., neck and bridge pickups together. So I'm going with a pickups ala jazz bass. I will also probably go passive. I don't need a pickup selector other than a blend pot. Anyone play a 2-pickup Dingwall with a blend pot?
