Greetings all,

Hopefully i will be putting in a order for my first Dingwall soon :) Basically it will be a 6 string ABZ with trans white finish, 3 pickup with the P at the neck. Standard they come with a wenge fingerboard. There is an option to go to maple for about 350 more. Is it worth it?

Any adds from Dingwall are worth it in terms of superior quality IF they are additive to your dream bass.

If you don't care, go Pau Ferro. If you can't live without maple due to perceived tone and/or looks, then pull the trigger.

The key phrase in answer to your question was in the third sentence of Zoomie's response - can you live without it? A custom Dingwall is a large investment financially and emotionally. Be completely honest with yourself when you are pondering these questions so that you get exactly what you want. Living with regrets is no fun... :rollno:

Whoa there, let's go back to that "P at the neck" for the sixer... Could the sixer P tone pup we've been waiting for have come into being?

I like the wenge boards. I really like the unmarked wenge, with just side dots. On a sixer, it looks really clean and cool. Just my $ .02. Oh, and the Luminlay side dots are super cool. The neck heel will be maple, unless it's a wenge neck, too.

If you do pop for the maple, I'm sure it will be a killer looking piece of maple. Is that bird's eye?

I'm trying to picture the transwhite with light and dark fretboards. Maybe some photo shopping is in order, or a trip through the galleries on the Dingwall site. (Like you haven't been looking at all the pretty basses!)

Update on the eBay Super J: At the risk of jinxing myself and causing the Canada Post shipment to be lost in Saskatchewan, I ended up buying it after some back and forth with the seller.

This will be my second Dingwall, joining an ABII 5 string fretless I bought on TB... I guess with two in the stable it's well past time I joined the club! Can I get a number please?

Because the standard on the ABZ is wenge/wenge i believe, so maple/maple is that extra. I don't even think theyw ill use birdseye...

In regards the color, i will either be going trans white or trans black.

You can see them on the pictures of pretty much any ABZ, or most other fretted Dingwalls for that matter. Those are dots on the fingerboard, usually on the treble side. These are in addition to normal side dots you expect to see. They're quite useful when on the treble side of the fingerboard on fanned fret instruments

We must have similar tastes - there's nothing for me not to like about your new bass except that I limit myself to no more than five strings. Paying an up-charge for maple is worth it to me, but the steeper charge for bird's eye is not. I think you're going to like that P-tone in your good-looking new tone monster. :bassist:

While we're 'talking Dingwall', I must say - the new sonic blue Super P(erfect!) bass continues to delight and amaze. :D
