This is the one thread on TB that I check daily, and I haven't seen any mention of them here. I'd be giving Barry Lamb a call or e-mail if I were 'in your shoes'. Have fun with your build and please give us your impressions. :)

I hope that you can get your hands on another Dingwall before too long!

Dont get me wrong, that little F115 will trounce a 410 easily and the DuallyT is pretty fantastic (I have the original prototype). That said... '66 is the way to go. (I also like to give John (zoomie) a little flak.)

I get to try out a AB1 this weekend, and will hopefully have my own on its way shortly after. :bassist:

No problem. I've got a couple emails sent-out that I'm waiting to hear back on. BTW, I first saw/heard about these on the TB Dingwall thread - Part 6, pg 16 - so it's been awhile since they've were introduced, or even talked about here.

The DuallyT is pretty fantastic. But it does not meet 100% of my needs in terms of volume.

My needs are not normal. :D

I am really excited actually. I have some nice basses, but have been wanting a Dingwall for a long time.

I recently landed a used but pristine AB1 ....my first Dingwall. I am amazed at the output of the passive pickups and the BluEQed circuit. Most all of my other basses are active and I use the "active" input on my amps to have a -dB pad. The Dingwall is almost as loud as my 9v active basses through the amp active input!
That's all great......
What I noticed about my AB1 that is a bit disappointing is that the the tone control has very little tone gradient to it. When rolled all the way off (let's call it "on 0"), you can definitely hear that the high's are completely rolled off. This is especially nice when solo'ing the bridge pick up and getting a really funky-pop tone. Regardless of which pickup selection I chose however, the slightest rotation of the tone knob gives me the treble back in my tone, but I cannot hear a difference between the treble increase when "on 1" or half way on, or full on. I wondering if this is normal or if I have a defective tone pot. Any ideas? Im pretty handy, so I could measure the resistance change in the pot as I roll it from "0 to 10" position.......does any one know if I should unsolder the pot before doing this? Any input on your experience with AB1 tone control would be appreciated.

Sounds like you need a new volume pot. Edit: I meant tone pot.

Zoomie has an incredible sense of humor, so I'm sure he can take any flak you can throw :D

As with Dingwall basses, favored cabs are pretty subjective within the same product line. Zoomie has a very dialed in idea of what tone he favors for his needs. His current rig sounds unbelievable. We've messed with gear a lot together and I personally think he made the right choice with the Dually T for HIS tone. I went round and round a couple days a/b-ing a Dually T and a greenboy F212. I'd happily gig either one. I used my Super J/P4 and Reiner 6SL7 pre and had 5 different bassists join in and compare...there were different opinions on which cab was the 'best' with 3 'undecided' votes. Different shades of awesome. They all agreed they want a Dingwall bass and a Reiner pre :)

I'm not into it enough to want 7987987 basses or 67894654 amps and cabinets. I find something that does what I like and that's what I use for pretty much everything.

I learned a while back that the only tone that really matters is mine. If you like it, cool ! If you don't like it, cool !

Interesting that you bring this up, Ken. Since the Super P5 showed up, I went on a rampage selling a ton of stuff. And I still feel like I have too much stuff. This from a guy that bought 40 basses in 18 months give or take.

The big thing for me now is to have cross compatibility with everything as in a modular approach. I want as few pieces as possible, without being singular in tone. Big cab, little cab, and old school vintage. One perfect cab for ABG or upright that can legitimately do electric without sounding like hairy butt. Amps are the same.

I have spent a bajillion dollars on gear. Someone elses turn !

PS - The author of this post reserves the right to purchase an additional Dingwall in 37 inch scale. :D

Okay, I've found two good members for my new club - "Sane Bass Players". You are both very well qualified IMO. :D

A good sense of humor is essential in maintaining sanity, and I agree with dukeorock that zoomie's is a shining example!
