yeah I played mine in church today and it killed it was so easy to play and it was clear and punchier then my old bass. its pretty much the truth.

Click Easter service, then the TV icon on the right side. This was the first of three services, Saturday night. We held two more the next day in the morning. Ignore the first song bass solo....I wasn't warmed up sufficiently and struggled a bit through it!! Sad The next day it was much better but we had power failures in both services during the set and again during the testimony of our Pastor (after the music), who is Canadian from Toronto. Smile
In this video, you can hear lots of Dingwall lows. Plenty of notes below the low E. I detuned the B string on a few endings to get that thunderous low A note. Enjoy! (Best listened through headphones or good monitors - cheap computer monitors won't handle the low notes). The videos stay up for only a few weeks on our website so when it disappears, admins feel free to remove this thread.

PS..that's my Dad playing electric guitar next to me.
His Fender SuperAmp is so loud so loud on-stage. It almost drowns out my low frequencies on my little rig but they make it out through the PA and internet mix.

I'm seriously considering the idea of getting one of the new Combustion basses as soon as they become available.
My concern is about down-tuning on a Dingwall: I use dropped C tuning on an Ibanez bass (actually ACGCG) and even with heavy gauge strings (GHS Boomers 50-70-95-115-145) I still feel that the low A and C strings are a bit flappy.
Will the increased string tension on the lower strings (thanks to the fanned fret neck) help me with my problem ? Does some of you have an experience with down-tuning on a Dingwall bass ?
Or is it the wrong solution to a real problem, and should I still get a Dingwall but just for the sake of it ?
(and look elsewhere to resolve my flappyness problem)

I think you'll have no issue w/ dropped tuning on a Dingwall bass, the long scale really helps out.
I've dropped down my B & E on a number off occasions and both dropped strings sound clear and authoritative w/ no floppy-ness.
Of course you can buy a Dingwall- just because its a heck of bass, but if you want to drop tune- Dingwalls are a way to go

I down-tune frequently my Dingwalls. From B to Bb to A to Ab even G!!! No problem (The B string tuned to G requires a lighter touch but no big deal). Tuning to ACGCG is no problem with a Dingwall (apart from the Super J 5, which is 35"-32")
After a LONG and winding road, I have a new Dingwall in the family!

Just joking (about the extra membership number), but definitely not about a new Dingwall in my herd. In fact it's sort of 3 new Dingwalls in my herd!!! In reality it's only one new Dingwall
So now that I got your attention we start with an old friend:
The Super PJ4
I really love the P pickup of this one, but I felt that the bridge J pickup did not posses the same oomph as the neck. So I ordered the Mach II version of it. Now all 4 positions see the same level of action. And with the added musicality of DR UFO's (Jonas Hellborg signature set) the tone is VERY musical and expressive
The other old friend is my FRB Z3
It has been a most different animal compared with the rest of my Primas and Zs. The original Super Fatties had a mid orientation, but the clarity of them in the low B and E strings was not up to the other cousins' definition. Master Chef of Tone, Sheldon took notice of my remark and worked hard to deliver the new Super Fatties. I fit the new SF pickups last Saturday. All schematics made the replacing an breeze. The well organized space in the control cavity made the whole process a joy. As far as tone goes, I can only say that Sheldon really delivered the mid orientation of the Super Fatties combined with the clarity and definition of the Prima Artist pickups. I know I am nit picking and that I am very demanding, but it's not likely that I will change any time near. Blame it on my youth

I can only say that the GL has risen very high in the family order. The tone is full with amazing clarity. It's very different tonally (in a very pleasing way), even compared with the Villex loaded Voodoo or the Emerald Green. More to follow

The FD3-A were the original pickups on the GL, but I am in love with the Villex tone and I had Villex make a set for the GL. To be honest I did not listen to the FD3-A but I will listen to them when I receive my Combustion. So far I have not regretted the Villex on the GL and it's highly unlikely that I will change my mind over this package. All the people that heard the GL commented over the great tone of the bass (one of the people is a top local pro who owns 100 basses with a Dingwall and a Fodera amongst his herd). Very different tone. Full, organic balanced with great clarity and the trademark Dingwall high-mid to presence detail and analysis

Finally picked up my first Dingwall. It is a truly stunning AB II with the following specs.
- Walnut Body w/ Burled Maple Top (Tiger Burst)
- Bubinga Neck w/ Wenge Fingerboard
Fantastic tone (I seem to be particularly enamored with the series setting). I had never played a fan-fret instrument before. It seriously took me less than 30sec to feel completely comfortable on this bass.
I have attached the official Dingwall photos for now (I will try to take some of my own soon, unfortunately Sheldon's photos are a tough act to follow).
