One of the most common questions that we receive here is about the difficulty of adjusting to the Novak fret system.
Last weekend I went out of state to get together with guys from a band I played in 32 years ago. In addition, I was asked to play some original praise material in one of the guy's churches the following day.
I asked Dan Cavil if he had any interest in ripping on my Super J5 for his songs in service. He initially expressed concern as he has never been a 5 string guy, let alone a crooked fret guy. He asked to play it in a short rehearsal prior to service and loved it so much that he played it during service.
Frankly, he flat tore it up. And he was playing some arrangements that were so complex that they had me sweating sitting in the congregation. And as you can see, Dan wasn't shy about moving around on the neck. ( Is it so wrong that I push my Super J on every unsuspecting bassist I meet just so I can hear it through FoH?

Proof that any competent bass player can pick up a Ding and tear it up with little to no adjustment period.
Important side note. The basses in this picture represent my bass journey in life thus far. When I was asked to move from guitar to bass back in 81, I agreed but I couldn't afford a bass at the time on Marine Corps pay. Dan lent me his spotless 79 Ric for two entire years. I fell in love with bass because of this man's generosity.
It's not often that we are afforded the opportunity to play the bass we started on. That Ric still sounds thunderous!
