Dingwall Owners Club

I get it now, no control plate, a whole different shape pick guard. What's your ETA on the new pickup?

I've got pictures of the transplant procedure. I might still have the drill bit and tap size for the new mounting holes.

It's pretty easy and the results are well worth it.

Another curve ball, standard P or reverse?

I just picked up a Candy Tangerine Combustion V4 at Long and Mcquade in the Toronto Area. They had a Blue NG-2 that went the same day. I actually played the NG2 and the day before and basically fell in love with it. The tangerine one came in the next day and I had a chance to play it and liked it even better than the NG-2. Just a personal preference. The NG-2 was amazing. Someone had actually ordered the Tangerine one that I ultimately bought and was there to pick it up the day I tried it. He took it home and then brought it back 2 days later and ordered a Swamp ash Combustion. I was pretty stoked to say the least so I snatched it up immediately. Can't wait to gig with it. That's an older Fender Deluxe Jazz case that it is pictured in by the way. I took it in with me when I bought the Combustion just in case it fit. I didn't think it would to be honest. Not only did it fit, it's as close to a perfect fit as you can get.

Stunning bass. Pleased to hear you preferred the Combustion v4 slightly ahead of the NG2. Seems like they are shipping the backorders now, must mean that my transparent white Combistion V4 is close:hyper::hyper::hyper:

In case anyone is interested, Sheldon got more Dingwall branded Levy straps back in stock.

He got some brown ones in as well.

Thought you guys might enjoy this...

I'm tracking an album with Thom Russo at Steakhouse Studios over the next few days, and this is my 'office'...no, your eyes aren't deceiving you, there are two REDDI's, one for clean bass and one for my board...I also have an Aguilar DB750 run to a single DB410, and Thom is using dual speaker mics as well as a sub mic on the bass port...

I can honestly say with no hyperbole that we've gotten some of the best recorded bass tones I've ever heard. Truly. The depth, clarity and harmonic content is just out of this world.

I can also honestly say that despite bringing a variety of phenomenal basses into the studio that the 3X has gotten the call for every tune...and honestly it hasn't really been a close contest.

We were joking after today's session that I'll probably end up selling all of my other basses once this album is done, but that might not be such a big leap...after AB'ing the 3X with all of the other basses I brought, for everything from fat, tube gritty fingerstyle Jazz to vicious, distortion and fuzz saturated pick-style P, I'm seriously considering parting with my Super PJ.

I love that bass, and it's definitely a world class instrument, but the 3X is just that good.

I've also realized it's time to upgrade my iPhone, if for no other reason than to have a higher quality camera to take photos of this gorgeous bass with on gigs and sessions ;)

Dang it! Smeet showed up today with his P5 and I'm already thinking a P4 may be in my future. Man, the neck was great and the sound was pretty solid with a set of flats on it. Looks like I could end up in the Dangwall club again ;)

Sheldon is notorious for not doing anything half-way. Mine (ash/maple) is mind-blowingly good! I've never played Bob's, but I can almost hear it sing, growl, and howl when I look at that beauty. :bassist:

I just received the invoice last night for the pickup. And yes that'd help of you knew the sizes of the bits. That'd save me a little time. I think someone on the dingwall forums posted pictures of their experience putting in a P pickup as well.

I believe I'll go standard P set up. I'm not really sure of the tonal differences between the standard and reverse P pickup positions. I'm open to either though.

Actually she sings and growls, but with the reverse P set-up, she don't howl so much.

I was not sure I liked the reverse P so much when I was first playing through my Uber cabs. Those cabs have a designed dip in the upper mids to prevent honkyness. But when I got my Bear ML-115, the upper mids came back and they are wonderful. Not honky, but just singingly awesome!!

Eventually, I'll switch her back to standard again for comparative purposes, and because I love the tort guard almost as much as the Baltic amber.

I don't know for sure, but the 'template' may have only consisted of CNC settings(?).

The reality is that we've upgraded CNC machines, tooling, software, computers and operating systems since that pickguard was made. My guys are running flat out trying to keep up with bass orders - and our waiting list is growing. My time is booked solid for the foreseeable future. If we are setup to make an older pickguard, it's no problem. If we're not, it's a bigger issue that impacts everyone currently waiting on their order.

Chandler is setup to make excellent copies of existing pickguards and they've got stock of every material you could imagine. At this particular time it just makes sense to get them involved.

Had the work christmas dinner this weekend. Bonus came in! Dingwall time it is!
I'll be ordering yellow. (NG-2 that is) The black has too much black and is gloss (prefer matte).
I've got a friend photoshopping a red contour line on the edge to see how the black/red outline would look, but I think the yellow and black just really pops.

I'm looking forward to hearing all about your 'new Dingwall day'...!!!
