Looks stunning. Just the pics of the high gloss blue instruments give such an impression of 3D (almost like you can dive in), must be totally out of this world in real life.

There seems to be some low level of inconsistency regarding naming of colours but if mine looks like this I'll be happy :-). And yes, I've seen "burst" and just SMB but in your case (unless it's a photographic effect) it seems to be slightly darker at the edge (so "technically" a burst).

It is a pretty beast. I have heard rumors that ugly Dingwall instruments exist, but I have never seen one in the wild, so I can't confirm or deny this. ;) ;) ;) I'm not a betting man, but if I were, I'd wager big money and bank on it that Sheldon will build you a beautiful tone monster!

I'm not a betting man but trust me, I'm definitely wagering big money ;).

Have yet to see anything that's not aesthetically pleasing coming out of the Dingwall abode.

I'm trying to convert my SJ5 to a PJ. I've already got the invoice for a new P pickup from Barry at Dingwall but I'm needing help with the new pickguard. Apparently I have an older style SJ5 because they've recently changed the body from a thicker chambered body to a thinner non-chambered body. Barry recommended Chandler at Pickguard Heaven saying that they should have the template but I've yet to hear back from them after a couple of emails over the past week. Anybody know who would have the template for a SJ5 with a P cutout? Or can anyone help me with creating a tracing?

Hey Brandon, I'm not understanding the problem. I had an early Super J 5, before the split P style pickup came out, and I changed over when the new pup became available. I ordered a new pickguard from the shop at the same time. I used the new pickguard, already cut for the P pup as my template for locating the pup in the route. It was pretty painless. Drill and tap a couple holes for the pickup mounting screws and solder a couple wires to the selector switch. The new pickguard needed very little fitting at the neck pocket and control plate, and matched up with the existing holes perfectly.

I guess I'm just surprised that the shop can't cut a pickguard or send you a drawing. Or maybe I'm just totally missing the boat here. How does the thickness of the body affect the pickguard?

That's exactly what I'm after. Below is our email correspondence.

"Hi Brandon,
Sorry but we no longer offer pickguards for old style SJ basses.
Please contact Chandler [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] as they can help you out."

My Response:
"Ok Barry. Thank you for the help. Do they already have the template for the super jazz with the precision cut out?
Also what do you mean old style? Serial on mine is 4489. Guess I didn't realize there was a newer style."

The reason I am suggesting Chandler is because we would be re-creating tooling for an old pick guard which is too time consuming at a shop where every machine and man hour is desperately need to keep up with our 8-9 month backorder of basses.

We just recently changed the body from a thicker chambered body to a thinner non-chambered body. I recommended Chandler as the pickguard company to deal with because they will have a template."

It is not clear to me whether or not Chandler has the template for the pick guard that 'mates' with a control plate. The non-chambered slim line body does have a new pick guard shape as there is no longer a control plate:

If Chandler does not have the correct template, maybe one of the Dingwall bretheren can help out with a tracing. I have hired the services of John Kallas for one-off custom guards (he crafted a black abalone guard for my SP4). His work does not 'come cheap', but is flawless. This was a cool one off he did for my take on a Fenderbird:
