Drop D, I can maybe do. But the rest, no way.

I'm leaning more towards tuning a Dingwall to G#, C#, F#, B, E. That way I get to use the 4th string as my main, and then I get 5 extra notes on that 5th string. Normally I wouldn't care about it, but I'm starting to put more theory into my bass lines that I write for this band since I've been taking lessons, and I find that I may deviate from what my guitarists are playing by going higher on the neck at times. It would be nice to be able to go a little lower in the register as well.

I rewatched Nolly's gear run down, and on a couple of his basses he's not even using the top string. It's mainly strung up to keep the neck balanced.

I would talk to Sheldon, and see what he recommends in terms of strings for that tunning. Should be able to order them online from various places.

Wenge, to my ears, is throatier with a more aggressive midrange than maple, but with a similar attack and rock solid fundamental.

In between services at my church gig at the moment, literally every single member of the worship team has commented about 'how great the bass sounds today' ;)

I think this is a reasonable description of the wenge sound contributions, although it is subtle to me. But the best part for me is that silky smooth finish. You can still sense the open grain, but yet the finish is just so satiny smooth that it is just shear joyous to play, or even just to touch.

Definitely brother. The feel of this neck is like nothing I've ever encountered before...the maple necked PJ feels great, but this one is PERFECT

You are a wild man. ;) MDBass had an FD-3 installed in the bridge position according to Dingwall specs by an employee of Carey Nordstrand. His instrument had a natural finish, so was a bit less of a challenge, I would think. The only person I know to trust with work like this would be John Kallas.

I feel the same way about my SJ5. The weird part is that on a mono-scale jazz, I usually don't care for the '70's pickup position, but I sure do on a Dingwall. Purr-fection! (or growl-fection :cool: )

Just picked this bad boy up from L&M yesterday, and it's incredible! Still gotta mess around with the action a bit, but it played really well straight out of the box. The wenge neck is the nicest I've ever seen on any instrument- all the comments about the "silky" feel are right on the money.

It's getting close!

I'm compulsively checking my email hoping to have heard from Barry that my Combustion has entered the setup queue, so that I can stop this email checking nonsense. With final exams starting in two weeks, I'm starting to think a new bass incoming in December might not be the best idea - I'm a notorious slacker as it is.

We're currently tracking guitars with Evan Rodaniche of Cage9/Powerman5000, and we'll be adding some teaser clips to the campaign page and YouTube from those sessions as well as bass tracking shortly...the new 3X Super J run through a blend of B3K into REDDI and B7K into LA2A sounds UNBELIEVABLE

And yes, Dingwall's wenge necks are definitely head and shoulders above any others that I'll ever had my hands on :thumbsup:
