I just bite the bullet and buy a couple sets of Dingwall strings at once. Cuts down the shipping per unit cost, and actually makes them cheaper to buy that the strings I used to get off the shelf for my parallel fret basses.

That's what I did too. Have to say, I'm pretty new to Dingwall's but am really liking their SS's. A lot.

I wish that there were more strings that fit my Combustion. I like heavier gauges than available with the Dingwall strings, and with the Canadian dollar sucking, Kalium strings are 'spensive.

On my AB-1 six string, I used Dingwall nickels, Payson medium light and Payson reduced core, Infeld Super Alloys, and finally, TI Jazz flats.

Bassstringsonline.com is a great source for strings that will fit your Dingwall. Jayson set me up with a mixed set of TI Jazz flats to make the lengths work. The Infelds were super longs. Matter of fact, BSO.com stocks Dingwall strings!

All of the above worked very well. The first three sets I mention are all in the same ballpark. The Infelds are a little softer, and the TI's are down right slinky.

Payson has developed several sets that do what ours don't, flat wounds, higher tensions (slightly), he now has a medium tension set similar to ours. Kalium makes sets that fit. In fact they designed their traditional tension sets around our bass. They've got a huge variety - HUGE.

Over the years many of our customers have experimented with "off the shelf" sets. We've kept a section on our forum to document their experiences.

Thanks to you too sir, I didn't know BSO had the Dingwall strings in stock. They are my first choice. But it'd be interesting to try all the different options you listed at some point!

I know this may not be the most appropriate place to post this query, but we do discuss string preferences with regard to our Dingwalls, so....

Anyone out there playing Dingwalls through a wireless system that you are really happy with? I'm thinking about going that route but I'm wary of compromising my tone.

I've used the Line6 G50 with pretty good results. I had no tone issues with it. With my production though, we needed a much more robust system when scaling up, so now I'm running the Sennheiser ew 572 G3 system for instruments.

On my new-to-me Combustion, I'm running the Dingwall strings that came with it. I like them so much that I ordered 3 more sets - they just arrived the other day. That should do for awhile. With the USD in the place it is, I think I'll stock up on a bunch of sets.

Still can't wait for a 6 string Combustion! Then I can sell my EBMM 6 with zero regrets, and be playing only Dingwalls for all of my projects.

Nothing sounds or feels better on either of my Dingwall's than Dingwall strings, and most sets honestly don't even close...I've used Kalium as well, which are also quite good and definitely the route to take if you're using an unusual/lower tuning, but what your ABZ really wants is a set of Dingwall strings

Cool, thanks for the input bro, I just was looking for an alternative coz right now I can't afford a box of 4 sets of stainless if I buy them from Dingwall (I just paid for my custom ABZ and I also want a Dingwall Levys strap) but I just learned that BSO sell individual sets so I think that's the way to go for me at this moment

BSO is great...their owner is a regular around here too, so on the rare occasion something does go awry he can fix it personally

Looking for a set of Half wounds or ground wounds for a dingwall. Can't seem to locate any, but Payson says they will put in a another order if They get 20 pre-orders. I'm in for 4 sets, anybody else love the sound and feel of Half wounds?

Regarding my build, I'm still trying to decide between a Super P5 or ABII. I have found that since my ABI stays at practice where I play it standing, I don't seem to have the issue of hitting the Ab/G# when reaching for the A on the G string like I do when playing while seated. This appears to be a me problem /issue. So I don't think I need to move to a P5 to correct it.

Since I love the thick P tone of my P tone neck PUP loaded ABI, plus the combo of 3 available great tones (Neck only series, neck and bridge series and neck and bridge parallel) I'm leaning in this direction. Only the added weight of the walnut body has me hesitating, even chambered, I think they come in at 8.5 lbs +, and I'm wanting closer to 8 lbs ala my ABI. Plus I don't have access to a P5 to learn if it better suits me (would want a Super PJ5 for the versatility ). Barry tells me a PJ5 would be closer to 8.5 lbs with the added PUP. Hence my dilemma. Oh, and the price is basically sixes. What to do?

Ok, let's see: wait time, around 7 months since I placed my deposit, but I had like 3 months or so to make up my mind regarding the specs, so I totally understand how it feels not to know how to invest your money with so many options!

I was on the same predicament: shorter scale with a super j or p or jp, or longer scale and 6 strings to enjoy the full Dingwall experience. But you have and advantage I didn't have: u already have played a 37" b string, so I'd go for the super if I was in your position.

It hasn't arrived yet to mexico, but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be in the 8.5 lbs neighborhood, like most ABZ 6, according to my research. I'm gonna ask Barry about it. I was also looking for a lightweight bass, but the lightest are the ABZs, no doubt about it. Still, a sixer under 9 lbs is music to my ears lol!

Thanks for the info! I got in touch with Barry and he said the ng2 guards are out of stock but they should be getting more soon. But If that falls through, I'll definitely look into pickguardian.
