The standard black Duncans.

The smoked chrome is a special production finish exclusively for the NG-2, doubtful you'll be able to find matching lock anywhere...but they're covered up by the strap 100% of the time you're playing so it doesn't really matter ;)

Has anybody swapped out their older 40 series rectangular shaped pickups for the newer round edge style?
Are they the same size as the 40 with the added semi circle on the ends? Or different dimensions completely?

My ABZ-5 has the rectangles but I've been wanting to try a few pickup swaps. I'm curious about what I'd need to route on my bass to make them fit.

Sorry, the rectangular shells are wider and shorter than the round end shells. There is no way to do a clean swap. We can make you any of our current or new pickups in rectangular shells though.

Just to clarify for my own sake of sanity... when you say rectangular, you mean like what is on the Combustion/NG-2, not the older Afterburner (rectangular but rounded edges)?

Thats a good point. I'm referring to the Combustion/NG2/ABZ shells. The older ABI and up rectangular shells are no longer available. However with 3d printing getting better and better it will be possible in the future to make them available again.

Okay, that's great info! I'll need to do some research to figure out what I want to do. I've thought about turning it into a 3x by just adding a P Tone to my stock pickups (which I assume are FD3's) and I've also thought about swapping over to FDV's.

I'm used to a single coil J bass tone, so the stock pickups sound a little muted and less clear on the high end to my ears. I guess I'm searching for that tone on the Dingwall platform.

Definitely check out the FDV pickups, which are excellent, and unless I miss my guess there are probably a few new surprises as well ;)

Sheldon's clever enough to always get a space on the lower level, which is less swamped with people, so you'll definitely have a chance to plug in and play anything you see hanging up :thumbsup:

Thought you guys would find this interesting: I recorded comparison clips of the Jule Monique, Aguilar DB750 & A Designs REDDI, in a variety of different styles, with a variety of different basses.



Any guesses as to which tracks I used my Dingwall(s) on? ;)

Awesome job Matthew. I think the grunge one is a Dingwall, but I believe I've heard that clip before. ;):thumbsup:

They all sound great, and I may be biased, but Monique wins hands down for me.

I really wanted a 3x, but I have been a sucker for Whale Pool Blue since discovering Dingwalls years ago. I have also often said that no one does blue like Sheldon, so I just couldn't help myself. George also made me a deal I couldn't refuse. Alder body, Glockenlang 3 band. Bleached burl maple top with Whale Pool Blueburst. What's not to love? :hyper::thumbsup::bassist:
