I find most of the time I photograph Dingwall black it shows up as purple. I think you did a great job capturing the look of the bass. To be fair, I suck at photography.
Interesting that you guys think the blacks have a purple tint, since my Dingwall is Trans-Indigo and everyone thinks it's black.

I think all the open-grain "black" ABZs are trans-indigo, even the ones with burst. At least all the ones I have seen are.
I dunno Dave, I don't see any grain other than than the texture you get from the matte style finish. She looks pretty solid black. Of course, that could just be lighting and photography. In any event, at some point, I would love to have a sixer to complete my Dingwall arsenal of doom. Maybe an ABII..............?

So just for clarification, based on what Sheldon said, these would fit in my SJ5 with rounded end pickups?
The pickup shape/size thing is confusing in the DW world. I think I get it!
No, the Super series take a 5 1/4" shell, that's how I ended up with these, thinking they'd fit in my SJ5XXX
Would like some help. I've been hearing a lot about the Z series, mainly how people really like the neck carve better, etc. While this may not be my first choice (a new wood finish Z3 with one PTone and two FDVs would be my first choice), this offers me a chance to try it for a little less.
My question is whether there are enough reasons to steer away from this one (other than the fact that someone else wants it):
First 6 pics are what Guitar Center posted. The first pic was the most concerning, but I asked for better pics of the neck. Still not perfect and the action seems quite high, but the price finally seems right. They started at $2800 and are now at $2200. I could also add 1 year repair coverage for another $250 (initial reaction to this is no...). I have it reserved until tomorrow and if I get it I have 45 days to return it.

That is what I wondered. After they reduced it the first time, I called and asked me to send pics, and then I told them I wanted pics specifically of the neck they said "I see what you're talking about in the pictures online, there are a few small nicks but it appears to be part of the grain of the wood, as well as the light on the neck and the pattern of the grain. The edge of the neck is nearly smooth. "
The additional neck pics do look better, but one wonders about the definition of "nearly".

I saw that over on the Dingwall forum. My first reaction was that someone or their dog tried to eat it.
Maybe you could send the pics to Sheldon and ask him if he thinks that will affect playability or reliability. It may have already been smoothed by someone trying to repair it. If you are handy like Singlemalt, you might be able to make it work.

A good luthier should be able to fix it. If you have a 45 day return, get it, take it to a good luthier for evaluation and either fix it or return it.
