I heard back from Tony at Pickguardian and they don't have a template for an SPJ5, he wants me to send my pickguard in. I'm not inclined to do that since it doesn't solve the reverse P issue if I decide to go that route. I also don't want to go with Jeanie's Pickguard as I had a bad experience with them.

Any other suggestions?

I saw that over on the Dingwall forum. My first reaction was that someone or their dog tried to eat it.

Maybe you could send the pics to Sheldon and ask him if he thinks that will affect playability or reliability. It may have already been smoothed by someone trying to repair it. If you are handy like Singlemalt, you might be able to make it work.

Also, as mentioned. Why is the action sooo high? Just a can o worms I'd choose not to open.
A Z series should never be a let down and this one...... well?!?!?

I've dealt with WD pickguards and had a great experience. It was on a EBMM though. I know they do custom but not sure on the process. Probably have to send a template.

Middle and Bridge are in parallel.

All three is Middle and Bridge in parallel, connected to the neck in series.

The all three tone is massive in a good way. With this switch configuration I don't imagine there would be any need for individual pickup series/parallel. Individual pickups wired in series for a beefier tone when soloed or placed in parallel?

There's never a "need" for it, there are just more tones available with those three extra switches...which is why I ordered mine with them

Series internal wiring is much beefier than parallel: more output and more mids

Finally received the new Payson flats! Much lower tension than the La Bellas I have been using, more akin to the Dingwall strings or TIs, and brighter/richer in the midrange than the more pure fundamental thump of the La Bellas - at least initially (to be clear, that's a relative statement - these are flats through and through, with plenty of fundamental, and not as mid-focused as the TIs). Very promising from the first few minutes - I'll be letting them settle in to see how they do.

For those of you who have used the Payson stainless steel strings, do they have a lower or higher tension than the Dingwall Stainless Steel?

That's going to take awhile with the 18 month wait time...BUT, I just so happen to be installing the D-Bird switch in the SJ3X right now

Do you know if there's a part number for that? Can you supply a picture? I'm going to ask my dealer, to ask Sheldon to include one in the case with my new AB1 so I can swap it in.

It looks identical to the standard 3X switch, except it has DB stamped on the PCB instead of 3X.

I've not nearly been practicing enough lately due to my new "hobby?"
I just completed my first project and thought I'd share. Any constructive criticism is definitely welcome but go easy on me. Lol.
First time working with a whole new set of tools and no real template. I'm gonna give it a go tomorrow at jam.





The shoulder side is primo italian leather. The top is veg tan with a 1/4" insulation sandwiched in the middle....... and the Dunlop strap locks actually fit. i shaved the veg a bit to ensure this.

Edit: width is 3 1/8" at the shoulder.

How can one criticize that? Very cool!

Thanks guys. My next one will have cleaner lines and more uniform stitching. I've got easily 6 hrs into the stitching alone. It sure is an art of its own that requires a lot of patients.

I'm hoping to turn this into a business one day but first I've got to improve my skills and quicken the process. Im going to do some custom etching and what not as well as time goes on so I can personalize an item as needed.

All in due time.
