Makes sense - you know what you like. Heard some interesting things about ash in particular, though I don't think I've ever played one.
What's the story with the mid? Can I bury it.
Just get one with a two band Glock.
Three FDV pickups coming m way from Canada. They will replace the FD3s in my SJ5...Will report back....

I predict you are going to like them better - I do and have ordered them in everything; purchased the first production bass with them in it and haven't ordered anything but FDV since.
Looks like a Bubinga neck from the heel. It looks like perfect match with that top. I would guess walnut on the body. I'm pretty sure Sheldon switched to the f hole after switching to walnut.
Yeah. I was assuming walnut as well but just thought maybe it was a special order. I couldn't tell by the look.
Sheldon doesn't use bubinga so much anymore hey! It's such a lovely wood for bass.
I have both an older solid mahogany bodied and bubinga/wenge necked ABII and an alder and maple/wenge ABI. When compared passive, the ABII has a more compressed and tighter low end and the ABI has an open/airy sound. Both are great.

This is indeed a really nice bass. I don't think yoku'll have a hard time selling it.
For me it's a matter of getting close to what I (and we as a band) are used to hearing in the mix on stage. For me there are too many variables in that AB2 for me to be confident that I can do that. Bubinga neck, chambered body, walnut body and arbutus top are all question marks to me in terms of what it does to the overall tone and performance of the bass. In a past life I pretty much didn't buy into the tone-wood issue, nowadays maybe a bit more. ; ) Part of the issue, besides my own 'pickiness' is that I play with 7 people who have mostly played together for the past 5+ years...and also have pretty good ears. I guess to my credit they find my tone as it stands 'right and perfect' for what we do. When I've deviated, they notice. It's not just me that prefers my cabinets, preamp and bass setup...it's them. I sometimes try to cheat and use a provided cab with my amp-setup and it generally doesn't go over either! I hear you. The Voodoo Prima is a mahogany body with pau ferro freboard. It definitely sounds more compressed, and that particular instrument also feels mechanically compressed. To me the tone also lacks a clarity that I get with the ash/maple Dingwall combo I use. Also, there may be some connection to the neck which is an early one with something like 11 or more maple laminates and is fairly chunky.
Although I'd suggest that the OBP-1 loaded Rastaburst has more control and is a bit 'tamer' than either my old AB-1 (alder/maple/wenge-board) or the 94 Voodoo Prima.
My first Dingwall was an ABII before the f hole. It had a mahogany body, bubinga top and neck, and a wenge FB. I really miss that bass. It had a very unique tonal quality. If I knew who had it, I would try to buy it back!!
I have an alder AB1 with wenge neck and board. The mids are really warm from the alder.
From my experience, my body wood preference would be alder (on any bass, not just Dingwalls). I like the look of ash, but prefer not to have a mid scoop that is often associated with it. Alder seems like a good general middle ground overall tone.

Yes, it was pretty much a twin until I had the wenge cap installed at the heel, the Pope Flexcore pre installed, and a custom battery compartment routed. Recently installed Payson tapered flats, this thing is heaven! Flip of a switch, I'm back to passive old school 2004 setup (minus the bluecube).

It's exactly this sort of sentiment that explains why no bass (let alone any Dingwall) has left my possession since 1989.
