I would appreciate it if you have time. I'm looking to go to 3X on my NG2 and trying to get all of the info I need before I get started.

Only word of advice I can give you, is be cautious. Depending on the date of manufacture, your Combustion PG may or may not line up with someone elses. WD Music will cut you a pick guard, but only as good as you trace it. In other words, if your screw holes, truss rod slot, etc don't line up exactly with yours, well, sad day and lots of filing, sanding and extra heartache.

I started to buy a C1 white MOP original Dingwall pickguard that is listed in the classifieds to modify, but noticed the truss rod cut out was "V" shaped compared to the one on my NG2. I read somewhere that a lot of these pickguards, due to modifications and tweaks in the ongoing refinement of the Combustion series just aren't interchangeable.

I traced my original NG2 pickguard, used a couple of straight-edges and the new pickup itself to line up for a 3X pickguard. I cut the first one out to lay on the bass just as a dummy check.

Speaking of which, looks like the shape of the Z has changed subtly in the direction of the AB/Nolly look based on the ones listed at bassdirect.co.uk. Could be my imagination but they look a bit different.

Very good to know. It's probably best for me to mock mine up myself and route it, or just send it out/bring it to someone who's willing to do it for me. I'm not really sure I have the time to mess with it anyways, so that may end up being the only option.

You really have me scratching my head on this one but I think I have to disagree. I think it's a trick of the pictures. That said the neck through look is pretty neat. Not for me (currently) but nice looking bass.

Well, finally at long last my new to me AB3X has finally arrived from the UK courtesy of my friend Jon. It came out of the box in nearly perfect tune. Notwithstanding the fact that they are both alder/wenge AB1s, I was happy to discover that my new one has a distinctly different and very cool tonality to it compared to my AB1 with standard pickup configuration. I really am very happy.

As for my" expertise" in importing basses from foreign lands NOT in North America? I discovered that I was not the expert I thought I was, as yet another painful experience made me acutely aware of my over-inflated level of confidence on the subject. I am probably so over with that now........

But I shall leave the details for another day. I just don't have the strength to bore anyone with it at this time.

Thank FAK there are a few(very few) dingwall creations I tell myself I can live without. Also a great thing we all have different tastes. What a boring place it would be otherwise.

Thanks. They are a handsome pair for which I have paid handsomely!

But then again, I shall not be pursuing any more Dingwall romance for quite some time, nor will I need to. Would I like to have a Z? Ummmmmm, YES! But at this point, that would be sheer indulgence. Frankly, a second AB1 was an indulgence tio be sure. But as I suspected, the 3x config has a sufficiently different tonality to make it practical and you have to have AT LEAST TWO, don't you?

If you are referring to one of mine, thank you sir. The great thing about a Dingwall is they are all incredible lookers in their own way, and no matter how beautiful mine are, I am always lusting after pretty much every other one I see.
