Dingwall Owners Club

So after the hottest summer on record and a ton of outdoor/festival gigs I decided it was time to do a major clean/conditioning of the old Voodoo. Here's a before and after of the fretboard(the after shot hasn't been wiped down yet), and some before shots of the body which is currently in progress.

Hey guys, got a travelling-with-basses question, figured there are some worldy players in our little group.

I'm moving to the UK next month (finally, ugh, the visa application process...) and I've already decided to forego the horrors of baggage handling, the hassle of flight cases, and I'm going to buy a seat for my bass. Actually, my wife suggested it since she's flown a lot more than I have.

Now, since my ABZ6 hasn't sold, and I do really love it, I'm thinking that I'll keep it.

What's to stop me from just strapping my two gigbags together? I've done the measuring, and no matter which airline I go with, the two combined would be well within the size and weight restrictions for a seated-instrument. Others in Talkbass land suggest that security won't even need to open the bags, they'd just send it through the x-ray.

I don't want to get a double bag because I know I won't be taking two basses around Belfast all the time, and I feel like only the Mono is as nice as my deluxe Dingwall bag, and I can't justify the cost of the Mono.

My first thoughts go to the mono double bag. I just checked one out that a friend had and thought it pretty sweet. Worst case you could just carry it around with an empty cell........ terrible..... I know.... I kinda had to as soon as I typed empty. I personally like it better then the levys bag. I've had three generations of the Dingwall levys bags and the newest one became my favorite quite quickly. I don't love he deluxe one as it sits so damn high and I have to seriously duck going through any door way.

Or like you said just strap to bags together but I think for safety it transportation and compactness id go mono double.

Go double bag @TheEmptyCell. Don't take the chance on the attendant saying only one bag can go in the seat, the other has to go in the overhead bin. Or worse, cargo hold.

Hmm, good point that they might flag it as two separate items. I think I'll just have to call their customer service to ask.

If you already have two bags you like and the airlines will flag them as two separate bags, maybe you can fabricate a bag cover they will both fit in. My gig bag came with a weatherproof cover made out of some type of waterproof material. I have never used it, but if you are handy with a sewing machine, a quick trip to Joann's fabric, a couple yard of lightweight nylon, a zipper, and an hour with a sewing machine could make a two bag cover. Leave a hole for the handle and zip both bags into it for transport.

My nicer Dingwall bag has the pull out rain cover, and I use it all the time.

I have actually thought that a simple cover/ bag that could contain the two gigbags would be fairly easy to construct (at least something my mom could likely make for me since she has three sewing machines).

I'm saving my pennies for a leather stitcher and I'm working on some ideas for a gigbag my self. I feel like what I want isn't exactly out there and I almost have the means. I just can't justify putting like 50 hours into hand stitching. Ha.

If it weren't for the fact that I don't buy leather goods, I'd be all about that.

I'm gonna do some investigating, see if my mom would be comfortable working something up for me, but first I'll check with the airlines.
