Do Fretless Exist without a Burst Finish?

Therefore.... if anyone knows of a fretless that comes stock with a finish that's appealing to "modern" tastes, then post it please. Clearly fretless inspires OP, and OP wants a modern finish. So as a community if you know something to help with this inspiration please share!

FWIW, buying used + refin is generally less expensive than buying new.

Also, I just ran an OOC search for “Fretless Bass” on Reverb. My impression was that maybe 20% of the instruments have burst finishes. FWIW.

Yup. Still working out the lighting scheme. The plan is to run fiber bundles from bank of 12 LEDs in the body, one for each chromatic note. I might use multi-color LEDs so that I can light up the root note in one color, the 4th in another, and so on. Lots of options, no firm decisions. :) The on-board computer would be synced with a web page I am working on to help teach theory. Bass. The direction this web page is going in also has lots of options and no firm decisions. The one given is that it will become dynamic. The current control panel is just a hack so I can see what the fretboard and circle of fifths look like for different chords.

Right now I'm swamped with regular work, and evenings and weekends are consumed by regular homeowner stuff (basement leaks are no fun). When I get some time slack and go back to these hobby projects I'll start a few threads for sure.

Boomer here, again. I haven't been offended by any of the "boomer" comments. If any other boomer here has, well, get a frick'n life.

Way back in the day, when I was in High School, burst basses were sold with terms like "old school vintage." I really do think Fender invented that color aesthetic to inspire people comfortable around upright basses from the 19th century to try an electric. I'm convinced that is still a big part of marketing fretless basses today.

Also way back in the day, we didn't divide people with named generations the way its done today. If someone was an old fart we called them an old fart even if they were still in their 20's. Cool folks were cool even if they were in their 80s. Especially if they were in their 80s.

So what's with this "boomer" and "millenial" and "q-monkey" terms or whatever? Marketing again. The data science folks coined these names to label the bars on their charts. It's all ad targeting. Laugh it off like most boomers do. The only difference between boomers and the newer generations is that we remember when we were the customers and not the products.

I spent the day yesterday working with an 88yr old retired PhD chemist who still drives his convertible BMW coupe 50+ miles to the lab we were working in. His first teaching job was at Princeton in the 50s and he holds numerous patents. Talk about a cool guy in his 80s...

However, your post does bring up something I never realized was a thing.
I’m surprised there isn’t a Schecter non-black metal model or non coffee table non tobacco burst model.

This old codger grouch curmudgeon boomer will keep an eye out for ya’;)

Maybe @JRA can help you out? Fretless is all he plays and he even assembles some with hep from Filipe Santiago

OP is fine. I thought original title was funny. Funnier is those that had their panties bunch. Skin thins with age, though

Original title made me think OP was looking for a fretless with pickups close to the bridge, like a Thumb bass.

Otherwise, I was going to suggest a high pass filter to tame the boom. Then I opened the thread and laughed, especially at those so easily provoked. Oh well. Off we go
