Do ya wear it high, or sling it low...?

I keep it a few inches above my belt. I have always done so. I tried wearing it lower once, but that lasted for about 2 minutes. I couldn't stand it.

It may look a bit dorky up high, but to heck with it how it looks!

I've seen players hold their bass at chest height, to almost dragging on the floor...where do you hold yours?

Used to "sling it low," then I got older.

Now it sits comfortably atop my paunch.

I really only need a strap for lateral stability.

I find the right hand 'chicken-wing' to be uncomfortable if the bass is too high, especially if you want to be able to play pretty hard.

Simply because I find it to be the most comfortable height.
Just can't get used to playing it any higher - I have long arms and a short body (my dad was an orangutang....)

If you happen to notice, none of my joints are at weird angles. I'm not using a pick. It also puts me in a great position to slap (plus switching from fingerstyle to slap instantly), as evident in this older pic (yes I know I look way different, but the bass is the same one that's in my avatar):

I wear mine about belt-level, but I've always been intrigued by this approach (MoD_Scotty's, that is). It looks good, and it mimics the classical or jazz double-bassists -- like he says, none of your joints are turned at strange angles.

Side note: MoD_Scotty, your bass-skills are hell of badass.

i don't wear my bass over my shoulder.

the strap i use is short enough for me to use as a belt. my bass is made of aluminum and incredibly heavy. (sounds amazing though.)

i moved my strap buttons from the typical locations (heel and top horn, though my bass has a gibson RD body style so there is no top horn) to the back, behind the top horn location.

this ordinarily extremely neck heavy/diving bass now balances perfectly and no longer screws my back up from playing. plus, the locations of the strap buttons allow much easier swiveling for reaching higher positions since i no longer have to take all of the weight of the neck in my left hand.

i just look weird playing it on this truss bass guitar belt. whatever. function over form.

Medium-low. If I wear it above belt level the right arm gets sore from being bent into a zigzag.

I wear it so the body kprotects my cod from wayward bottles - but still high enough that i can give a little peek to unsuspecting fans at sweaty outdoor gigs while wearing short shorts.

Mid-high - it bottoms out about an inch above my hips.

I wear it fairly low, simply cos it's where i put it when i started playing, and i put it there because that was what was most comfortable for my looooong arms.

The fact that rocking out is easier down low is neither here nor there.

I'm sure i could improve my technique etc. if i raised it up, but i honestly don't want to, i've tried before and it just wasn't comfortable.
