This is a poll thread topic waiting to happen. What ads pop up for you on talkbass? Could be telling about browsing history…

There was an OT joke thread about a fictitious cruise that was full of…cruise ads.
I haven't seen any ads for Rolexes pop up yet.
Rolex doesn’t have to advertise because they can sell all the watches they make

I wore cheap battery-powered watches for years. When the battery died on my last one, I waited a year and a half before replacing it, only to discover the watch had actually stopped running. So in a moment of pique, I went looking for a manual-wind watch. No more batteries for me! It took a surprisingly long time to find one that didn't require a bank loan! This one is real simple--its only feature is 12 and 24 hour markings. Other than my bass, it's the nicest object I own.
No, I think it's because they know most musicians can't afford their watches.
Agreed on all points! My bronze Hamilton Khaki has become the daily driver and probably will be for a long time. I did switch the leather strap for a black NATO.
These last two posts have hipped me to Hamilton. Had never known of them. That's my kind of look.
IMHO this is one of the nicest looking watches regardless of price.
These Khakis are modern versions of the Vietnam era watches Hamilton made for the US Department of Defence. They make quartz and automatic versions now too but I'm partial to the manual wind movement like the 60's military watches were. Hamilton is now owned by the Swatch Group who thankfully have maintained the look and vibe of the original US Hamiltons. The triangular shaped Ventura I posted earlier is a quartz redo of the late 1950's original which was the first electric watch. It's a cool company with some history. Good bang for buck too.
love those Hamilton Khakis! they recently came out with a 38mm version of the interstallar "murph" ...i have a g-shock, and an older reactor that I gifted my dad about 12 years ago, which, after he passed, I got back and wear...also just recently got a seagull 1963 with the swan neck regulator and sapphire in 40mm...it's pretty cool, but there are a dozen other watches I would love to have...make that about two dozen
Always. I didn't start wearing them regularly until high school, but I can remember being intrigued at various times in childhood.
There must be some kind of psychological reason for people to want to wear one, aside from function or even fashion. Maybe it represents quality time with others. I picture two friends meeting for drinks and they are both probably wearing watches. They are not doing anything that others would consider productive. They just like to hang out and talk.
