Double Bass Does thrashing around while you play do any good?

Late to this party! I am a huge fan of holding still and of musicians holding still in general.
Though I like Jarrett.
At the very least it should be something we confront in ourselves and make a decision about like ANY other aspect of technique.
Mr. Tuneh plays great, though. And he uses the "right" bow!

I agree except for the "right bow" ;)
I may be mistaken, but I don't remember Keith (one of my personal favorites) going through those kinds of contortions when he was with Charles Lloyd or Miles. I think it's just an affectation spurred by fame and fortune with a big hat-tip to his idol, John Coates. My wife always says that he sounds like Jerry Lewis with his high-pitched, whiny vocalizations :D

Well, actually the german bow is originally form Czech, it is called czech bow!

But still guys get old, its not the bow its the players!

I know i may create here wind but, Mr. Tuneh uses both, german and france grip, like few others, but when he uses the german bow it still fine and graceful as if it would be france one.

Damon and I were just joking about the "right bow." You are right! It is the player not the bow that really matters.
Look at Ignat playing the Baroque bow.

That clip sounds great.
Who cares if he moves...

Having said that I shared a stand with a player who conducted during rests with little apparent reference to the conductor's beat or that of the orchestra. I still sleep at night, however ;-)
