Drummers Bald Head on TV

My band has been asked to appear on our local community type TV station, in a music show that is starting up.

Which is really great!

The thing is, our drummer has a bald head. Not just bald but quite shiny, and rather than shaving the whole lot off, he has the old-man type side-strip thing going on.

I wish he'd get rid of it all or wear a hat - what do you think? At the moment it's like a big bright beacon banging away at the back. I'm worried it will be a distraction on TV.

Has anyone got any bald drummer tips for making him (well his head anyway), less noticeable?

Thanks

Seriously?
You are going to be on TV and the main thing you are worried about is if the drummer's bald head is going to be too obvious? I would be more concerned with things like making sure all the band members are properly dressed and sound good!

Have him grow it long, perm it and color it bright red and then help him rat so it's like a sideways pyramid like this: <0>

Make sure he grows the Anthrax beard thing too and colors that bright red as well.

Everyone will think he shaved the top to get it to look like that, problem solved.

I see from gjbassist's avatar that he is biased! :p Actually, I'm a little shiny on top myself and I understand your concern. I've been a hat-wearer since before my hair began to migrate and like the look. It's true that the lights on a television set can turn a bald head into a beacon of sorts. I'd be straight up with your drummer. Tell him that this is show business and that image counts. Don't insult him by beating around the bush, and don't do it in front of all the other band members. If he reacts defensively take it in stride and give him some time. He might come around to your way of thinking on his own. If he doesn't then you need to decide if the issue is worth making a big fuss over. I mean, he is just the drummer and chances are no one will be paying much attention to him unless you give the guy a solo. :D

Depending on the style of music you play this could be a viable "plan B" option. :p

People wear makeup for tv all the time. Get your girlfriend or his, or someone's wife to take him to walgreens and find a powder that matches his skin tone. Have him put it on his face and head so that it blends properly. Then the rest of you do the same. You'll all look better for the show and he won't feel singled out. I promise you won't look like you're wearing makeup, you'll just look like you have good skin.

I'm pretty sure Kenny Aronoff would tell you to go pound something besides his drums or his bald head.

Just make sure you sound good. If the dude wants to wear a hat, cool - If not, then have whoever does your TV make-up to powder his head so it's not shiny. I'd be more concerned with not sucking
