DSMnoisemaker & Humboldt Electronics Simplifier Bass Station

After doing more research I think I'll but a compressor and aftershock on parallel loop and sa phaser on preamp loop, thoughts about using a separate compressor in just the loop then a compressor in series most likely the hyper luminal and then solidgoldfx horizon compressor in the loop, maybe. Thoughts? My only concern is that I'll be compressing the bass signal twice.

I’ve only used the compressor on the parallel channel. I use the preamp with some gain so I get a bit of natural compression on the preamp side.
If I was going to use another overdrive I’d put it on the preamp side and set the preamp clean. The parallel side has the filter so I typically keep the low clean.

Hello all,

I'm thinking about using the preamp abilities of the Simplifier en send it to my amp. I have a cab (a nice sounding one!) so I wouldn't use the cab sim.

HOWEVER, I would definitely want to use the cab sim through the DI OUT.

So my question : is the cab sim always one throught the DI OUT, event when having the CabSim blend at 0 ?

I think if you set the cabsim blend dry you won’t get the cabsim. However the line to an amp does seem to include the cabsim if not blended so I think you either get no cabsim for anything (setting that blend to zero) or you get it in everything except the dry DI out when you use cabsim.
A little odd, since normally you’d want the cabsim off on the amp output even if you want cabsim on the DI.

I used it this way live but with my amp set totally clean and dry and it was great, but I can see how this would be problematic.

Need a small preamp.
Hi Everyone....happy holidays! I am building a small pedal board and I am looking for a small bass preamp. The Simplifier keeps popping up...I have read a lot about this pedal mostly good some not so good....what is the Talkbass consensus on the Simplifier (Good/Eh)? Are there any alternatives worth looking into?
Thanks All!

If you set the 1/4" out to THRU, it bypasses the pre and the cabsim settings if you want to send a straight signal to your amp

Right but if you want the eq/drive but not the cabsim I don’t think that is possible if you want cabsim on the DI out. A little strange but if your amp has similar eq/drive you could use the dry 1/4”.

It’s very good and very flexible. Especially if you want to utilize the dual channel fx loops. I don’t think many other have that.
I like the drive of the origin bassrig better but with the simplifier you can put anything you want in one of the loops.

the simplifier also allows for a clean (parallel) channel filtered only to lows and then you can blend in the drive channel and you can put whatever effects you want separately on either one. Clean strong lows and overdriven highs is very nice. This thread has lots of detailed info if you can get through it.

Has anyone tried their ClearComp?

Yes. I actually have used that for the clean channel of the simplifier to boost it a bit and compress the lows. That leave the highs uncompressed and responsive and keeps the lows from getting boomy when digging in.

I also use it directly in the signal chain sometimes. I like it better than the cali76 and even the maxon and other classics. It seems less noisy and responds a bit differently.

For me if you don't have any plans to use the inserts I would probably pass. For me I use it on my source audio board as I can run two different compressors off the Atlas..I have 2 other boards with a Atomic bass box and a Nux MLD preamp (which I highly suggest)

I should add that I do like the OD on the simplifier preamp channel. Used that live and sounded great. It’s fairly light OD and responsive.

Don’t know how it compares to the nux drive, but the only one I like better is the origin.

This is my go-to-everywhere / practice board, the one that I use the most and carry with me to practice and recording sessions, as my "Big" board stays at church. I don't use the FX inserts too much, and I know I can use the Bassist on the parallel channel and the Space Heather on the preamp channel, but I'm a bit too lazy to reconnect everything again, maybe it's a good project for this holidays...

Anyway, the SBS is one of the best purchases I've ever made and definitely a keeper.

Thanks TTPbass1! I have to ask a few of you are using the term "Inserts". Is this the same as the effects loop? I was going back and forth between this pedal and the newly released Revolt Bass Preamp, but I have not been too excited about some of the videos on the Revolt so I went ahead and placed the order for the SBS. Will let you know how it works out!

Re: inserts … I think so. Don’t think I’ve used the inserts / effects loop.

Re: Revolt … wow those demos sound hmmmm … well … IMO you made a great choice. Hope you dig it!

Someone made a good point above re: being able to select sending cab sim only to the DI. Assuming that’s possible, that’s a great idea for a V2 feature.

Tried it to me the level drops dramatically when using the inserts and the crossover between the pre amp and the parallel channel will cause additional drop in volume. I find that if you use a boost pedal in the inserts or have a hot bass pickup, you won't find much use for it. Seems to work best with active basses as I use this device on my source audio board in which I only run actives, plus the source audio pedals can take advantage of dual channel processing....
