DSMnoisemaker & Humboldt Electronics Simplifier Bass Station

Love the format and concept, but I would love to see some variations on the pre-amp sections as SVT's are the norm as others have stated before.

Not being a SVT fan myself makes me think twice about purchasing either the Simplifier or the Olympic.

I am still going to keep my "ears" peeled and wait for more demos to start coming out as the format would work so well for my setup.

Thoughts on the Simplifier Bass Station:

I love this pedal and I think it will be a game changer for a lot of bassists. There is a ton of functionality in a small package. Is it difficult to use? Well, yes... and no. But once you get the hang of it, the Simplifier really becomes quite simple to use. Think of it like an amp and cabinet in one little box. It sounds great. Overall, I'm real impressed with the Simplifier Bass Station.

I published a thorough review on my Compressor Pedal Reviews site: https://www.compressorpedalreviews.com/simplifier-bass-station-review
I know it isn't a compressor... but I love compressor pedals and I also love the Simplifier. :D

My review is of a prototype with full functionality.

Hey Dan, @Dsmnoisemaker - for those who have pre-ordered the Bass Simplifier, is there any clearer date for shipping, other than just February?
I appreciate things change/move, just keen to get stuck in!

Hi Neon!
We don't have a specific date, mostly because assembling and shipping is a process that takes one or two weeks (well it used to be much less for us, but orders are now 10 times bigger than before and takes time to assemble, test, package, label, classify and ship)
The terrible situation in China has stalled the whole production for 2 weeks, waiting for critical parts that were not shipped due to the extended holiday. But we have been informed that the parts are now underway and should be here in a week or so..when it arrives, i assure you we will be shipping them out as fast as we can!

The only thing that gives me pause about the Simplifier Bass Station is not that it's modelled after an SVT, it's that I can't decide between the SBS and the OmniCabSim Deluxe! :D

I've never owned an SVT, and at this point in my life, I have no desire to own an SVT. But, although I've never had one, the first bass amp I used was a borrowed late 60s B-15N Portaflex, and I was never unhappy with "the Ampeg Sound".

As a bassist, I've owned Trace Elliot Series 6 solid-state, Trace Elliot V-Type tube, SWR hybrid, and Mesa/Boogie hybrid rigs (current), and loved every one of them. As a guitarist, I've owned Ampeg solid-state, Ampeg tube, and Mesa/Boogie tube rigs.

But while I definitely want the Simplifier for guitar, I'm not sure the Bass Station version is what I need or want for bass, instead of the OCSD. TBPH, I'm not sure if maybe just two OCSDs would be what I really need for guitar, too.

If money were unlimited, I'd simply buy both Simplifiers and two OCSDs, and not worry about it until I had them all to compare, myself.

I have a tendency to make things more complicated than they really need to be, which is ironic, given that the product in question is called the "Simplifier". :smug:

I can't wait to hear more demo videos of all three products, but I'm already sold on the idea. I'm planning on downsizing to a "tiny house on wheels" and/or a downtown apartment so small that I won't be able to store my amps at home, anymore. I will need to rent a studio or storage unit somewhere outside my house, but I will still need some way of amplification for practicing and capturing ideas at home.

I also want to build out a "fly rig" pedalboard for travel, and so the Simplifier and/or OCSD products are going to be the backbone of my system. I had actually already settled on the OCSD, and then the Simplifier was announced.

I get your point. Both the OCSD and the Bass Simplifier are great for FOH. But they are for different type of players. If you already own a floor preamp that you like and assorted effects, the OCSD is a better choice.
But for players that go straight from the bass to DI to FOH, the Simplifier is a huge step up. The OCSD really shines when there's already a preamp or dirt pedal on the chain. That's where the Simplifier idea came up.

That's precisely my plan. I'm GASIN' for the BS because I an on board preamp and also have a 1st gen B7K and go straight to FOH for most of my gigs and sometimes it doesn't work well with full range audio systems. The amp/cab sim plus the insane functionality seems like a perfect match to me and my current gear.

My bass station just arrived today. Funnily enough, I was going to post in here this morning and ask how shipping was going, and boom. Doorstep.

First thoughts - Ho. Lee. Crap. This thing sounds killer. So far I had been using a TC Spark Boost and Omnicabsim for my preamp, but this is straight out replacing those, the gain character on the simplifier is just what I was looking for. Kept all the switches as is, just dialed the mic position and resonance to about 1:30 each.

I haven't even tapped into anything for the bypass or loops, just running other effects straight in. I am really looking forward to integrating it with my other pedals and experimenting with how to route everything. Also hopeful the DI is solid, I've been let down by a lot of noisy DIs in the past, and I am hopeful this can take the place of the Stagebug I've been using.
