DSMnoisemaker & Humboldt Electronics Simplifier Bass Station

What about the Omnicabsim Mini?

Agreed - if form is the issue & both parallel and preamp aren’t important, the OCSMini is the ideal middle ground.

Downsides? The OCSD has more ‘ability’ for tailoring. I’d definitely try/borrow a mini before you buy - for me it was just overshadowed by the bigger pedal.

I’ve tried many, many different IR’s for a live or IEM setting & still find the DSM products better for my purposes right now.

I have owned the Mini and found it to be too noisy for me.

I will see if I can end up dialing in the Bass Station closer to what I can with the OCSD. I think I was just surprised that I did not find it as useable as the OCSD. Meaning I had a hard time finding settings on the deluxe that were not useable. So far, that's not the same experience I am having with the Bass Station.

My Bass Station arrived this morning. In between conference calls I have been trying it out with my PA, different headphones, in ear monitors, different basses trying to formulate an opinion.

First thoughts? The overall output volume is too low. When I set my input trim to 0, fader to unity and master fader to unity I am FINALLY getting the same overall volume that I get out of my other DIs...

Anyone else have this problem?

Got it... it's the difference between 100 Ohm DI vs 120 Ohm DI.

It took a moment to understand how to dial this in. Really content in how it fits in the mix. Works with most music... but you can't get a slap tone with it... lol.

There are 3 ways to use the "Thru" output.

  1. Flip the "thru" switch to get the clean signal
  2. Use and XLR - 1/4" cable and use the DI Parallel
  3. If you want to use the pre-amp section of the bass station (for some strange reason) with your amp, use the Thru and pre-amp blend to taste, and turn the Cab Sim Blend all the way dry.

This is the first time that I have ever had the ability to dial in nice fat distortion.

The manual does not do a good job of helping you understand how you can use the DI Out, High Pass Filter, Blend , and mic placement together to get a solid distortion. The phase switch also plays a part in the overall tone as well.

It depends...

If you use the DI, you have access to the blended signal. I have used just the DI out in combination with the HPF to create a killer distorted tone.

I have also used both when I wanted to run a clean signal and a signal with effects.

It truly depends on what you're trying to accomplish at any given time.

A sweet preamp connected to the Simplifier blended with cab simulation is awesome.

Just curious, what do you find lacking in the Bass Station preamp? I've seen a couple comments from people through the thread that it isn't anything special.

I've been thinking about putting a DG Harmonic Booster or a SA EQ pedal in to hit some of the frequencies the onboard EQ doesn't get, wondering if there are other things I' not seeing with this box. Still barely had a chance to experiment with it since I've picked it up, just been using it as my main DI for church.

Some people prefer a flat tone while others like character and presence.

I know people that swear by the tone of a Fender Rumble or TecAmp. Other like a tube amp. The key is to find that thing that make you not think about it so you can concentrate on playing.

This does that for me.
