Here's me double-posting to ask opinions...

First off, [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] is my own ad for the ODB-3 that didn't move in my recent sale here. I got a message from someone Saturday asking if it is still available - I replied that it is, and about about 15 minutes ago the following (copy/pasted directly from the mail) showed up...

-----------------------------------
"Thanks for the prompt response and i will love to make an instant
purchase,so please do withdraw the advert from Craigslist.I dont mind adding
an extra $50 dollars for you to take the advert down from criagslist so that
i can be rest assured that am in hand of the item. I will also like you to
know that i will be paying via check, and it will be an over night payment
due to the distance .
You dont need to bother your self with the shippment ok,I will take care of
that.So I will need you to provide me with the following information to
facilitate the mailing of the check.
1.Your full name.
2.Your mailing address,be it residential or postal address.
3.Your phone number.
**Once again ,I will like you to know that you will not be responsible for
shipping.
I will have my mover come over as soon as you have cashed the check**
Do Have a nice day"
---------------------------------

Would you? While he doesn't straight out ask for my bank account info, and apparently either missed or just ignored the part about '..No checks...", something really stinks here, I think...

I found this one amusing

Scam, scam, scam. Craigslist is cash-only for me, usually meeting at a neutral site.

Just some info for craigslist users here.

The scammer doesn't need your bank info. The money order or fake check scam works as follows:

1) Sends you a fake money order or check

2) You deposit the money order or check into your bank acct.
2a) Banks do not actually check for fake documents when they are deposited
2b) You now have "the money" in your bank account.

3) The scam now goes two ways here:
- They often send you WAY too much money because of some lame excuse (like $1000 extra) and ask you to simply return the extra amount.
- You ship the item or they pick it up
- both of the above

4) After 5-10 business days, the bank will get around to check the document, discover it is a fake, and immediately subtract the money from your bank account. At this stage, you are the ONLY one who lost money (the bank loses nothing) so nobody at the bank cares. Nobody will get your money back. Nobody will ever investigate this, and nobody will ever arrest the scammer.

(This would be under the FBI's jurisdiction for mail fraud, but in sports terminology, the FBI is a team "in transition" with more pressing needs to address.)

There is honestly no chance whatsoever in this universe that the email quoted above is a legit buyer.

I had a friend of a friend lose $2800 to this scam when trying to sublet her apartment. I helped her with the documents for the "investigation" by the bank, but the bank didn't lose a penny so they clearly didn't care.

Craigslist - deal in cash. Take a surprise friend with you (i.e. say "I'll come at 2:00" in the email, but show up with two people). Leave notes at home when you go.

I'll report it to C/L, and attempt to resist the temptation to send the address and phone number of the county sheriff back to him...that'd be fun to watch.

Scammers probably send 100,000 emails PER DAY through craigslist that look exactly like the one you posted. I assure you with the greatest sincerity that they don't care.

Unless that county sheriff is your blood relative, I assure you that he doesn't care. Mail/wire fraud is not within the county sheriff's jurisdiction. Even if he saw the scammer write the email and send it to you, it would be beyond his ability to do anything (except report it to the FBI).

And the FBI couldn't care less about mail/wire fraud at this point. They're all spun up over mortgage fraud and domestic terrorism.

(Upon proofreading, it seems like I'm scolding you - it's not that at all. I'm personally very upset about the mail/wire fraud crisis in the US right now, and equally upset that nobody will intervene. I'm being very careful not to stray into politics. Any perceived anger coming from me is not toward you - it's created by and aimed at the scammers.)

Unless that county sheriff is your blood relative, I assure you that he doesn't care.
I'm not reporting it to the sheriff; the scammer asked for my name, address and phone number - I want to send the sheriff's info to the scammer as mine, just in case the idiot tries to follow thru.

I realize that nothing can realistically be done about it, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to pick on him a little, if possible.

- edit - I realize you weren't trying to scold me, you're just trying to be helpful and informative. I also suspected almost immediately that it was most likely a scam (respectfully, I'm not stupid...). No worries, I appreciate your concern!

Rock Band generation. "Bass is easier in the game, therefore it is easier in real life".

One of my nieces is starting bass after her brother switched from Rock Band drums to real drums.

Her parents said bass would be simpler. Of course they know I am a bassist, they are in "competition" with us (I can tell you how proud they were of their brand new quads when we got dirt riding that one time and my son and I just smoked and humiliated them with beaten old dirt bikes -last time we went riding with them).

I have warned her to work at least one hour a day, AT LEAST, and that playing an instrument is a commitment. We'll see...

Bass isn't that hard ...

Original 1966 Fender Mustang Base - $1600 (Yadkinville)
Date: 2009-09-29, 1:19AM EDT

This is an all original 1966 Fender Base. It has been in the family for over 30 years, finish is worn but gives it an antique look.
It plays and sounds great. We lost the case for it a long time ago so it won't come with one.
$1600 OBO

i have a guitar i traded for a 50$ bag of weed about a year ago. i have never played it or used, i just felt bad for a friend who had no money at the time. i'm short on cash myself right now so i'm trying to sell it.

the previous owner had taken it apart and repainted parts of it, so i have no idea what the make and model is (i don't play any musical instruments, other then my skin flute and hairy banjo)

the nut on it has worn down on the E strong, so it needs replaced, i'm told that a replacement cost 5-10$ and a bit of wood glue, if you bring me a nut i can do it myself, it's not hard.

other then that it's a good guitar.

i've posted an ad 3 times now, and so far everyone that seemed interested never got around to actually looking at it.

i don't have a camera so you'll have to take a look in person.

i have a mini-amp that you can test it out on.

What kind of wacko makes this sort of admission?

And, he's never played it...but he knows it's a good guitar.
