ahh yes the old "a bunch of amateurs who nobody will pay to see are ruining it for my supposedly professional band that nobody will pay to see" argument. i love that, it's like toyota claiming that the go-kart track next door is putting them out of business.

Now that, is awesome.

Craigslist is interesting around here.

One guy wrote a slam on a club that didn't honor a contract.

Based on a response, it's someone I used to work with. If you know the guy, it's too funny.

I was wondering if someone could help me post a new page on Facebook? The page should be called: "P***** That Let Venues NOT Pay Them; And Then Whine on Craig's List Because They're Too Much Of A F**daddy To Do Anything About It"...It will probably need a small friends section of maybe 3 or 4 slots. But keep a slot open for poor "XXXXXX XXXX and the Whiners". That's the new name of the band BTW. Instead of manning up and getting the money owed to him he'd rather wah, wah all the way home-or is it wee, wee all the way home. No matter but he's blazing a path for the younger musicians out there to emulate. Brave, thrifty, cocksure to be sure! Catch 'em soon and he'll buy you a beer-because YOU'RE the only one to show at the gig.

I left the name out to protect the innocent. It's too funny to me because he plays too loud, doesn't play things that people like to hear, takes way too many gratiutious solos, doesn't do anything past 1975, and then complains about the crowd and venue. I've told him all this, and he's too stubborn to listen. The only band where I saw the draw decrease, the longer we played.

The funny and sad thing is that I'm not the only guy who knows about him. Unfortunately, his ego isn't going to fare well against the cruelty of anonymous haters on the interweb. I sorta feel bad for him, but not too much.

P.S. Please no guitar players that think they are bass players! Bass players only. Our drummer will spot you in 5 seconds. ( he eats bass players)
:eyebrow:

What exactly are "guitar players that think they are bass players"?

I mean, I've heard the expression of bassists who want to be guitar players, but this one is odd. Does it mean people like above who sucked at guitar and thus probably suck just as bad at bass? Or is he saying he doesn't want bassists who are overly technical? In any case, they still sound like huge d-bags.

Guitarists who can't get into a band and who realize there is a higher demand for bassists and switch.

As if your knowledge of music and of a similar instrument would make you a bad bassist, unless you just picked up bass and you're not used to the big strings.

The fact that the drummer "eats bassists" is somewhat intimidating and if they have a hard time finding a bassist, they could lower their expectations somewhat and settle for an average bassist, but that's my opinion, it's their ad, not mine.

Well, I can sympathize with the 'no guitarists-cum-bassists' attitude to some degree. There's nothing wrong with switching from guitar to bass (it probably helps, actually), but I have played with plenty of guitarists who pick up the bass, know the fretboard and think they're good to go. Many guitarists don't quite understand the learning curve for bass thechnique. Many guitarists also want to play bass like a fat, deep guitar, often missing the expectation the rest of the band usually has for them to keep the rhythm section tight.
Guitarists usually don't play bass very well, but guitarists who are ALSO bassists are often a joy to play with...

So, you were in this guy's band?

Yup, we were in a band together about 5-6 years ago. I was there for a year and a half, and I got fired. They rehired me, and agreed to be a sub. I subbed for another year and a half and quit.

The material was getting stale. The guitar solos were too long. The guitar was to loud. The arrangements were too cluttered. And over time instead of increasing our draw and getting in better places, we peaked at about 2 years and then the venues our agent was booking us at got worse and worse. Less people came to the shows, and I saw the direction the band was going and quit.

re, guitarists/bassists - I've always been of the opinion that, while they both have strings and necks and knobs and stuff, knowing one of them even sorta well doesn't automatically mean that you know the other one any further than knowing how to plug it in. Just because I can drive a stick-shift car doesn't automatically mean that I can drive a stick-shift Peterbilt, does it?

Personally, the only thing I can do with a guitar is tune it. OK, I do know how to plug it in also, but beyond that...

Many guitarists also want to play bass like a fat, deep guitar...
Isn't that what baritone guitars are for?
