Well first depends on how you use your tech 21 device? Some people use them more of an overdrive pedal. Others use them as an amp in a box, where the tech 21 provides the clean tone and another pedal provides overdrive.Quick question, if someone already has a Tech 21 BDDI or VT Bass pedal why would they need a Blumes? Asking for a friend.
You might also just want a different overdrive sound than what either tech 21 will provide. In neither scenario would you need the blumes but it could be an additive experience

Because more pedals is better than less pedals
For anyone else that has received their Blumes already, are you finding the pedal crazy noisy? I have an embarrassing amount of gain pedals and with my setup I don’t have any noise issues with any of them. I have big muff variants, an Amptweaker Lefebvre tight fuzz, Woolly mammoth, a rat variant.. and I boost all of them with a Wren and Cuff Phat Phuk B - I mean, a lot of gain pedals! My basses are all dead quiet with all of them. My wiring is pristine and my shielding is rock solid. I have a Cioks DC7 with nothing daisy chained. Noise from gain pedals has never been an issue for me. With the Blumes, the second I kick it on, there is a profound buzzing. Just want to see if this is par for the course with this pedal or if I have an issue with the one I received.
Because those Tech 21 units are based on different preamp/overdrive circuits. The Blumes is based on the Plumes which is based on the Tubescreamer circuit. There may be some crossover in what the Blumes and those Tech 21 units do, but probably not as many similarities as there are differences.Quick question, if someone already has a Tech 21 BDDI or VT Bass pedal why would they need a Blumes? I don't have the Blumes so can't help you, but is the buzzing independent of changes to pot settings on the pedal, or does it vary. In any case, that's a bummer: my sympathies. I hope other owners can help you out. Perhaps you got a lemon and EQD or your retailer will replace it ASAP.
Ignore me! I’m an idiot. I was putting the Blumes in my signal chain and powering it with a OneSpot wall wart I had sitting in a desk drawer. That was the problem right there! I swapped the Blumes in for a gain pedal I had on my board that also had top mounted jacks and a top mounted power in and once the Blumes was being powered by the DC7 and not the garbage wall wart, it was also dead quiet. Problem solved. Pedal is great! I wanted to not like it because it’s affordable and not all boutique and difficult to obtain, but it’s great. Kind of insane the amount of different tones you can get out of this puppy… for $99!
Dude, thanks for the reply! It was user error. I didn’t think powering it with a cheap wall adapter would cause any issues since it wasn’t being daisy chained, but holy moly, I was wrong!
Absolutely zero worries! I'm just happy for you that you don't have to go through the pain of requesting an exchange and all that jazz.
Enjoy the new pedal! Coincidentally -- and going briefly off topic -- I had exactly the same issue not ten days ago when trying to mount and power a simple buffer unit (~2 mA draw) at an insert point under my desk using a simple 'switching' power adapter. I had it all set up, switched on the power and... got a horrible buzz. I'd never had an issue with the buffer unit before. I had three other switching adapters (received free with forgotten pedals years ago) in my box of spares, and all produced a similar noise. I was becoming convinced that the buffer was defective until I tried a spare Voodoo Labs ISO-5 PSU. No noise. Phew. Then I tried an old transformer-based EHX wall wart. Again, no noise.
Somewhere in the recesses of my mind, there's something about charge pumps in power stages and other reasons why some pedals can't get on with certain kinds of power supplies, but others will surely know why this occurs.

When I had the SVT VT bass, it was great, but always felt a little bit dirty and had a lot of low mids. I don't have it still to A/B, but the Blumes can get a little cleaner and doesn't have the same low mids thing.

Here in Europe it is 40 % (!) more expensive. 129 € currently. Still reasonable but I feel exploited

so far mode 2, but i think that like mode 1 just as much.
