OMG that neck... I'm pretty happy that my SR5 Special has some birdseye in the neck! Its lovely.
On another note... I've been trying to get ahold of Quickguards to order a tortoise pick guard for my bass.... b ut after three attempts I have heard nothing.
Any ideas? Is he just too busy?

Actually its been at my local guitar shop for almost two weeks getting a setup (busy shop!), I'm picking it up tonight... and I have a session this weekend so it'll be my first time recording with it.

When I bought mine I was hoping to find one with a little birdseye character but then it quickly became more about the weight of the instrument. So, I had to let the birdseye part go. No regrets.
I wasn't too worried about the weight (mine weighs 9lbs 4oz) because both my J bass and my 2005 SR5H were heavier than this thing is. But I get the weight concerns. Also the weight isn't a big issue for me because I pretty much sit most of the time... I don't gig out very much.
