Yes many keep them on Bass for a decade or more
Having used Cobalts Flats they aren't even like flats to me. More like rounds but smoother. Awesome string.
I have yet to use them on my Special or any bass for that matter. What are they like tension and flexibility wise? Are they like regular flats that last a while or lose “it” like round do?
They last a while before they start losing the zing and crispness. Even after break in period they are more lively than normal rounds. Got great growl that Flats just don't have normally. Between them and TI flats they are my favorite flats. Tension wise they are slightly less than rounds but not floppy at all.
Great thanks. So if I normally use a 45-100 Slinkys or 45-105, they would feel similar?
I have cobalt flats on my Ray but had a hankering to try rounds again, feeling like I might be missing something. The rounds (slinky) were previously used, but in great shape. I couldn’t hear a difference that mattered! The sweetness of rounds with the silkiness of flats.
It’s not as a heavy flame as I’ve seen on some others but it’s still nice.
It definitely has more of the stingray “bite” than the specials do but not as aggressive at the old rays. I think it’s a unique preamp just for the 30th anniversary models which was a precursor to the special redesign. I’m anxious to have it at the gig tomorrow. I’ve been mostly playing my P bass and my Sadowsky lately so the Ray has been out of the rotation.
Just smoother and slightly less stiff.
We have similar taste in strings. I have 7 basses. All of them wear TI Flats or Slinky Cobalt flats except for my bass with TI Rounds and GHS Bright flats .
Thanks this is great info. I’m going to have to grab a set now. I’ve had flats on my stingray before, and I love that “flats on a Stingray”, it just doesn’t work for everything Usually too stiff for meI switched from 45-100 Super Slinky to same 45-100 Slinky Cobalts; tension was very similar and needed no neck relief adjustment
The actual feel of string is different and considerably less string noise as with most any Flat
The feel difference takes some getting used to if you like me have always used Rounds
may not be best description but Cobalt's feel almost Slippery
I really like their tone and I am guessing you might also hearing some of your Playing
