Got oyster from Les and Treys little project.
Yes but back of neck has oil/wax finish I have had my Special for year and a half and use Cloth only for back of neck and it is still same as new; also read on EB forum that to only treat back of neck with oil/wax when felt needed; May not be a problem using wonder wipe but I am not going to try to find out I will let others do that
When I owned a Stingray 5 the g sting was never an issue for me.
I imagine, and I'm often wrong, that the wipes might break down the wax and oil used to treat the neck. I don't know if the maple fretboards are treated with the same or if there's nitro on the maple.

So I gotta tell this experience I’ve been through this week with my Special.
It’s no secret that my #1 heart & soul forever bass is my Mike Lull Jazz-style bass. Or it’s not a secret anymore….
I’ve spent about a month diagnosing and figuring out a hum that cropped in the preamp of my Lull. Play it, work on it, rinse, repeat. This went on for probably a month or so. During the time I worked on the Lull, I played it a lot and started thinking, maybe I can do with just one premium bass and sell the Special. Getting older, should be more practical about these things, doncha know….
A buddy of mine wanted to buy the Special, so I set about putting on his favorite strings (I prefer Pro Steels, he prefers Nickels). When I picked up the Special, I plugged it into my practice mixer to just plunk on it and tune it.
And oh, man, it was like being hit with the Special stick.
The more I played it, the more I realized, I simply can’t let this Stingray Special go! I love the tone (sorry, 2-banders and pre-Special folks, no shade, I promise), the feel, the neck, everything about it.
So I had to call my buddy and apologize for not being willing to sell my Special after all. And HELL YES, nothing wrong with having two great basses, even at my age (67 in 3 weeks). Thankfully, my buddy is a great friend and understood. I did tell him he could borrow it if he got the urge.

I've had a few basses over the years, but once I decided to get that One Great One, it came down to finding a quality American-made instrument that I could be happy with and never have to sell. I kept trying different Ps but nothing really stuck. Nothing felt like the right thing. One day at a random shop I stumbled upon a Sterling and it blew me away. That's when I started taking Specials seriously and played some. I knew I had to have one and when I saw that Hot Honey finish, that really sealed the deal. I can understand not wanting to sell it even if it seems like it's a logical idea because you want something else.

Maybe you need to find yourself a 5H in Hot Honey and sell your friend your current 5H to offset the cost. If you pick up a used one for yourself , even better. You might break even or come out with a bit of change in your pocket.I meant to edit my response to include….

Age ain’t nothing but a number . If you are mentally and physically able to play it, keep it.

Is that Position 4 I see? It doesn't matter, I'm going to opine anyway.
When things need to be quiet around the house, I'll put my jaw on the upper horn of my bass to practice. I love the way it sounds like that, and Position 4 (flat EQ) sounds just like it. It's such a great thing about the 5HH.
