The compressor on the old WT amps was a little cheesy IMO. The pedal does a good job of emulating it.

Eden WTDI Direct Box/Preamp

Bought one today. The main reasons for the purchase was the 30hz to cut boomy stages. Other reasons is that I know it will drive a power amp and has a DI if I decide to go the power amp route. Aside from that, I've always dug the eden-ish tone and am looking forward to seeing what this pedal can do. I plan to run it with my VT Bass into the power amp of my bx1500.
Let us know how you like it! I've been looking at this and the Tone Hammer as a tone-shaper/DI box at the end of my chain.
I considered the tonehammer as well. I settled on the WTDI because its smaller, cheaper and I have no desire for anything but clean.
For those of you who is interested in sound of Eden WTDI - I have recorder some samples for my Hagstrom HB-4 bass, first 4 of them with WTDI directly to sound card. Settings on WTDI - Bass 12 o'clock, Mids 12 o'clock, Highs 12 o'clock, Gain 8 o'clock, Enhance 9 o'clock, Compressor 10 o'clock, Volume 2 o'clock (basically my fav settings I use all the time). Got my WTDI today! Looks like a very nicely built unit. I will be giving it a whirl on Wednesday.

That's what I'm going to try. Not sure about the 30hz on the bass boost though... although the Bass EQ is set at 30hz.

It's weird, it almost seems like they got the bass curve and the bass boost curve backwards. From these graphs it doesn't seem like the bass control is centered at 30hz at all, more like 60 or 70. And the bass-boost is a narrower curve centered at around 45hz.
Am I reading that right? Eden described the bass-boost switch as a "dynamic boost along the Fletcher-Munson curve, doesn't that seem more like the black curve in the graph rather than the purple one?
Wait, that can't be right. The purple line must be bass boost, as it reflects only one curve of being an on-off switch. Still, the bass knob seems to be centered higher than 30.

Anyone out there notice that the input gain is extremely sensitive? I get distortion above 9 O'Clock...anyone else??

For those that say the gain on the WTDI is overly sensitive, are you using it with high output basses? I want to give it a try, but my main bass is my Jazz with Quarter Pounders and is quite a bit hotter than my other basses. I have to turn down the gain controls on "sensitivity" effects like overdrives and envelope filters and the gain knob on amps compared to my other basses. Do you guys think I'd have a problem with the gain knob on the WTDI? I'm a little worried that even with it zeroed, I still might have trouble.

Agreed, it's an option. Was just wondering if a high output bass is the problem or if it's just the way the gain knob works on the WTDI.

you will be fine. I play a passive bass but the product was designed for bass players in an era of active electronics and not as an instrument pre but more a gig solution.
There's a great reason to work your volume knob more as well unless you are driving a power amp and plan on never bypassing the circuit.
Also, that's what thecomp is there to help with.
Set it up to either *just * not clip with no comp or *just* crackle with no comp and compress to keep tasty.

Yes My friend bought this pedal. He is a recording engineer. we attempted to use this pedal in the studio as an input channel for bass. Attempted being the key word. We have had the same problem with distortion. The gain has to be set below 9 for input and the bass pots have to be dimmed past 75% otherwise the box distorts no matter what.
What happens when you dim pots on a bass? You loose highs. It was next to impossible to get both pickups on a Jazz bass even with this box because of that, unless one has a blend and volume. The Precision bass full distorted the input and was not usable at all.
In hindsight, I spent 4-5 minutes with the box twisting knobs and playing open strings before I said time is money and pulled out my pedal board with a VT Bass and Multicomp. 2 minutes later, the track has bass on it.
I believe that the box has a gain structure problem. Big time. Maybe some advise on how to use the thing is in need, as I believe it still exists in the studio arsenal.
Sorry, terminology for dim would be that the volume Pot(entiometer) has to be turned down some, or dimmed. It cannot be 100% up, maybe like.. 80%. So dimmed a little. Make sense?
