Epifani is gaining weight...

Just as another data point, I've never had a grill rattling, buzzing, or ringing problem with my older grills. I second the notion that, if this is the same stuff they use on the PS, it's a time and money saving move.

I dont think they even bothered to update the site when they brought out the S2 cabs.
All info seem to relate to the first gen UL Series cabs.

They still have the 502/902 pictured with the limiter control, and the UL cab pictures are the old NYC's with the signed cones:D That site is better off ignored for product specs, etc. IMO.

Again, I think this is a result of their business expanding exponentially, and just not having the manpower to deal with this stuff (not really an excuse, but at least IMO an explanation).

The UL410 is the only GAS item I was planning on purchasing in the near future. I'm perfectly happy with my current tone but was hoping to go with a lightweight cabinet that, hopefully, sounded as good as my current setup. The extra weight definitely just knocked it out of contention and off the GAS list. (Maybe a used S1 or Berg though.)

An IMHO here:

I think this thread is a little "alarmist". We should consider ourselves lucky to have a loud and good sounding cab that is 65lbs (seriously)... Epifani has been around the block, Nick is a stand up guy and I think that we can all trust that these descions where made with the best intent to keep the epifani name where it is. Epifani and a few others spear headed this awesome light-n-loud "revolution" that we have, 9lbs is a forgivable margin..... Srsly. ;) This is not a "frownable" move if it is a direct consequence of supply and demand, if that was the case then this was a choice that had to be made. JRB made a very good point as well.

I understand that some of you guys have back issues (and are complaining about this weight change due to that), but I don't think that 9lbs will hurt the Epifani name, weight is not the only thing going for Epifani.

I know that weight is not enough to sway me from the Epi cabs, they are sonic bliss and have a low end that I could not find in the AE410.

+1. I was a bit miffed when my 502 did not have this. I think many businesses under estimate the power of the web. 40% of my day job's business now comes from online sales and 25% of my overall business comes from bigger packages only available on the web. Having an out of date site is very short sighted in an effective marketing campaign.

That 75lb light-weight threshold figure will continue to decline as the years pass, gym membership or no gym membership. It may not even be based on whether you still can handle the weight, but whether you will still want to tolerate heavier schleps. ;)

Exactly. I can pick up just about any cab but why would I want to if I didn't have to?
;)

Dwight, Jazzy Grille makes a good point here... even with the weight gain, it's still among the very lightest 410's out there, and still sounds just as fantastic as it always did. I think you might be overreacting a bit.

+1...the 9 lbs makes a difference for me, because prior to this info it was basically a toss-up between the 410UL and AE410. Both are great cabs that have pros and cons, but the 9 lb. swing eliminated an advantage that the 410UL had. So I'm leaning strongly towards the AE410 while before I was leaning slightly towards the AE410.

But if the direct comparison with the AE410 is taken out of the picture, I don't think that 9 lbs should be big enough of a factor to influence a buying decision.

While I don't necessarily want to create another UL410 vs AE410 thread here, I will say one thing... the two cabs sound VERY different, and at least now, weigh close to the same, so it still should be a TONAL decision, not just a weight decision, since they aren't directly comparable tonally.

This thread just about does it for me. I'm through with Epifani. Cabs in photo for sale. $200 takes both.

Just kidding. Sometimes I crack myself up! Especially when I'm bored. :o:o:o:D

MM, that stack looks familiar. Do you ever run both cabs? If so, don't they sound AWESOME!!!

Yes sir, I do. I've posted these pics before. I run both of these cabs together for many of my outdoor gigs. Here's what it looks like in full dress.

Since both cabs are 4 ohm, care needs to be taken since the 210's woofers are getting twice the power as the 410's. It's just a matter of listening...which I'm doing anyways. Otherwise, why would I have spent all this money on gear? And yes, it KILLS! :D

Edit: Total weight of rig pictured...130 lbs. :p

I know what you are saying Vic. However, my current setup consists of two 2x10's that weigh 56 pounds each (mostly for easy portablilty but also for the stacked height). I thought it would be great to get a 4x10 that weighed the same as just one of my 2x10's. Now, it's just not as appealing as before. It is kinda silly though when we go to the gym and lift as much as possible over and over.:smug:

MM - I've got the same cabs (my 210 is 8 ohms though). So with the Shuttle 6.0, AI Focus SA and these two I've got a 1,000+ watt, 102 lb. rig.

Oh.....that's if I don't sell all this stuff for $200!!! ;)

LOL. Yes, I saw the UL's in your profile. Great taste in cabs, my friend. Oklahoma and California aren't so different, after all. But just because your rig is 28 lbs lighter than my rig...no gloating. :rollno:

The UL-210 & 410 may not be the best sounding cabs in the world, but they're so darn close that when I'm playing through them all I'm thinking about is how good they sound. And if my UL-410 had weighed 66 lbs back when I purchased it new in March of '06, I likely would have bought it anyways. My take on this whole thread is that even at 66 lbs, the UL-410 is still a major contender. But yeah, the website should be updated ASAP. Now let's all enjoy a beer together! :D

True enough. However given that epi chose to call them the Ultra Light series it's not surprising to see a few eyebrows being raised when the weight starts going up. Maybe they could resolve the issue by renaming it the Reasonably Light 410. :smug:
