Double Bass Evah Pirazzi strings megathread part III

I currently have a set of Evah regulars on my bass. They've been on there for about a year and were slightly used when I bought them.

Recently I've found the sound to be quite flat and a little uninspiring. I'm also pretty sure that some of the harmonics (mainly in 4th position) are sounding a little sharp...

Are these signs that my Evahs might be starting to wear out or am I just imagining things?

That was my experience with Evah regulars. After a while they die, the harmonics get weird, and the sound isn't amazing anymore. I'm using weichs now, and the don't seems to suffer from the harmonics going out of tune as much, but they get a lot quieter. Walking still sounds great, even when they're old. The regulars might sound a little meatier than the weichs, but my hands get tired with the regulars.

For me, on my bass, I have to buy a new set of Evahs about once a year, 1 1/2 years. I know there are less expensive string options that last longer, but I'm addicted and nothing else will do!

Who's still playing these? I got a set (weich) that was used for a year and I've had them on since probably February. I am gonna switch out the D/G for Olivs soon but love the sound of them. I only wish that the weich strings were a little lower tension.

Anyone still using these? I'm a fan of the weich and keep wanting to go back to spirocores for some reason, but just love the evah weich on my bass. I've only ever had used sets and finally just bought a new set. Gonna keep those spirocores around though...

I have been teetering on the edge for months about getting the EP slap set. Can't decide if it is all about curiosity or whether I have a incurable, re-occurring case of gut fever.
I have used gut G, D and A several times in the past but the only thing going back that is stopping me is these darned 4/4 Spiro Weichs! My 3/4 bass likes 'em and I like 'em. But then I hear some guy playing guts and up goes my temperature.
I know people listening probably could not tell the difference or even care enough to want to know.
So keep these posts coming! The more I read about EP Slaps, the more chance I have of finally making an irrational decision over an irrational issue. :banghead:

I think if you want the feel and lack of clarity of gut then go back to evah slaps. My issue is that the Spirocores are too bright and I don't want to wait for them to die. If I could get a set that was 3 years old that would be great. I sold my 2 year old set i used in college and regret that every day. I just dont have the patience to kill a new set again. Plus I LOVE the feel of the evah weich. I can put the evah weich about a full turn higher than the spirocore mediums and get the same tension and feel but also have more meat under the strings. Love it.

Recently picked up some Evah Pirazzi Weich D/G on eBay for a steal the other week. Wasn't really looking into them but like I said I got them for a steal.

Had them on for a few days paired with Jazzer E/A. I forgot just how great of an all around string these are. Jazz pizz and then arco.... neither feels like that much of a trade off. A true hybrid string. I know they go dead and get stiff and need to be replaced but if the worse thing about a set of strings is needing to buy a new set every 9 months (that's what i remember getting out of a new set) well hey....I could live with that.

My Jazzer E/A are actually sounding kinda dull next to the EP Weichs, might bite the bullet and grab a new EP Weich E/A.

bskts: My Spiro 4/4 Weichs do not sound bright on my Eberle. They have a solid fundamental and low tension and settled in very quickly. I should mention that I also have a solo Bel Canto on the G.
