Exar Tourbox Thread

So much for me shipping the box via Priority Mail.

Cyrus, next time around, charge everyone $20 or so via Paypal as a deposit. If people don't move the box along in two weeks, say, they lose the deposit. That would have been me, too, this tourbox, but I think it'd be a good idea, although more work for Cyrus.

This has been a heck of a tourbox tour! I had not looked at Eric's original post opening the thread in a while. The tour started in late July 2010. We have eight people left on the list. It's taking 2-3 weeks per stop, so if you figure 20 more weeks, this tour will have lasted well over a year.

I've had the pedals almost a week, time to get them out to... nad I think?

I want to confirm his address, since this box has been going around almost as long as HPV at this point, but when I search, all I come up with is a bunch of new amp day threads...

I'll PM his address to you when I get home tonight.

Also, I found that we have 13 TB'ers named "Nacho". :)

Krakow! Krakow! Krakow! Got the box today. I'm going to leave the pedals at the shop for others to try this week, then take them home on the weekend for further independent discovery. Afterward, perhaps they will ship off to the next listmate! Initial thoughts:

Moby Dick is a chorus. It seems to work well as one. Tone control very usable! Someone thought the name was Holy Dick at first, and we liked that title better.

Bass Distortion has a very nice blend control. Doesn't appear to play nice with tweeters, but that is okay since they are against my religion anyhow.

Octavium is the god damn cheese. Very nice octaver that tracks well, sounds great, and has all the controls one needs. I'm going to enjoy this one, oh yes.

Finally getting some thoughts up:

The relay bypass sounds great, but the switches are WAY too sensitive. Too easily activated by a light tap from the side.

Moby Dick chorus sounds slick and gets considerable depth, and the tone control is practical.

Bass Distortion is like some kind of agressive tubescreamer - it really depends on the blend for low-end retention, and IMO that's not the proper way to do bass distortion. Basic sound is pretty farty with intense mids that the tone controls can't help with.

Octavium had very good tracking, useful tone controls for the octaves and I really like having 4 octaves to work with (including the dry signal). Easily the best of the three pedals.
