Fatal Attraction potential??

I have been at my office for about fiver years. A woman started about a year ago, roughly the same age as me (45is to about 50 ish). We had a few conversations over that time period, but out old office space wasn't too conducive to much more than that.

At the beginning of this year, our office has moved, and she sits at a desk that is conducive to swiveling around and chatting.

We are realtors, so....there is a lot of chatting. I have discovered we know many of the same people (we live near each other), our kids are in roughly the same age bracket, we are into similar music, and we both find our business challenging. In other words, there is LOTS to talk about. I have also, with more experience in the biz, mentored her quite a bit of the past couple of months, in an informal way. Given her guidance on a number of client issues, etc. We are also FB "friends".

Over the past two weeks, this has spilled over into "off hours" via text message. I didn't see this as unusual, as it's not uncommon to come home at 9PM after finishing with a client, so her texting me saying "they didn't like anything and we'll be looking at more houses tomorrow" seemed perfectly fine, as well as responding to it and "chatting" for a few minutes.

Well, things took a different turn over the past 36 hours. At 12:30AM Sat, she texted asking if I was up, as she couldn't sleep and had a charity 5K to do in the AM. I was asleep, BTW, so didn't see it. I did respond in the AM though, saying "yeah, I was asleep" and left it at that.

Fast forward o 8PM last night, where she sent something to me that made no sense, and said "sorry, wrong thread". Then, an hour and a half later, she sent me a smily emoji with a kissing lips thing. WTH?? Then a note saying that she "has a crush on me".

Holy crap, WTH is going on?

I said thanks for the compliment and tried to diffuse the situation.

She went back and forth between apologizing and feeling embarrassed, to sending more kissy face things and hearts. I suggested maybe there was some alcohol involved here, and she said "yeah, but doesn't change how I feel."

Yikes!!

It ended with another kissy face emoji.

:woot::woot::woot::woot:

She sent a note this am, apologizing again, with a blushing emoji.

I sense it will be a bit awkward the next time we are both in the office.

:meh:

I learned by experience on this back in 1999 (on a Y2K project).
Do not crap where you eat!

to clarify, do not even flirt seriously with gals where you work

Right, couldn't agree more. Didn't think i was flirting at all though. Just being sociable and helpful to an inexperienced agent, who happens to be a pretty cool person.

Thankfully she's not my type, or this could be a (bigger) problem. I am a weak man.

Unfortunately most of us are weak men when it comes to the opposite sex. Yeah, business and pleasure seldom mix well. Might be best to take Barney's advice and nip it in the bud.... Like first thing in the am. Just apologize at the coffee pot for maybe giving the wrong impression and coming off too forward kind of thing. Place the blame on yourself to avoid a hurt feeling sort of thing. Good luck.

+1

Back in the 80s I had to deflect the attention of a younger female colleague, at the time I was married with 3 young children and had zero desire to break up my marriage.

We were on a business trip and had checked into our hotel. I was having a well earned shower after a long hot drive when the phone rang. In her best seductive voice she told me her room number "in case I needed it". (I already knew it because we checked in at the same time.) I said ok if there is a fire I will make sure you're not trapped in there, she hung up.

She was a bit embarrassed at dinner but I didn't mention it and she soon got over it. The rest of the trip passed without incident. She ended up marrying another guy in our department, her age and single.

Best thing is to have a talk with her and be up front. Tell her you highly value your friendship/business situation, but that you are faithfully married. Let her know by saying that if you got the wrong vibe that you apologise (thus giving her ego an easy out) but that you wanted to be up front and honest with her. The next time you see her, don't be awkward, just be friendly, knowing you have made your intentions perfectly clear.

Secondly, you should let your wife know. Something as awkward as this might find its way to your wife, and it's best if she hears it from you first.

Here's my tale:

got to working at General Motors on a Y2K project
hit it off REALLY well with this gal from another company at orientation

cut to a few months later after we'd been busy...
she casually mentioned in front of all & sundry that she was preggers

later she finally came clean that it was a lie, but hell broke loose in the meantime
I was in love too, moaning her name in my sleep

If you happen to see a stunning gal, with Indian features, named Jiab working at General Motors Thailand, don't shag her.

I've got no photos of her, but this is pretty darn close:

I got my first mobile phone on that job, a StarTac from Motorola, with no camera, DOH!
