Not best this time! Best it too subjective!contextual, as we all know. Guitarists often steal the spotlight but we know so many great bassists have also been the front man/woman. So let's see who are your favorites. I'm willing to add names as the are suggested.

No, it was definitely the actress that was in Princess Bride and Gotham.

Anyway, I have to go with Sting if we're talking musical output, and probably for vocal ability. For bass playing, probably Claypool. For putting all 3 together in an amazing way, probably Esperanza. But many others have done a lot of great stuff like Steele, Bruce, Geddy, Squier (he's the reason those Yes harmonies sound so ridiculous), dUg (soul for days and those big meaty funky rocking bass lines?), etc...

Chris Squire was a damn fine vocalist as well, often times doing harmony vocals way above Jon Anderson's pitch while playing a countermelody on his Rickenbacker and playing the bass pedals all the while looking badass and making it look like kid's stuff.
R.I.P. Chris. You're missed every single day.

I was going to be indignant that Paul McCartney is not on the list, but rather than do that, I'll just say that he's my choice.

I had to vote for Sting, solely because he was uber-cool as a frontman/singer/bassist in The Police. And he wrote some sweet punky-reggae tunes back then in the late '70s/early '80s.

For combining vocal ability and range for me it is a toss up between Greg Lake and Chris Squire.
For combining Vocals and bass ability it would have to be hands down Greg Lake.
BUT for being a front man, carrying a tune, bass ability it would have to be Larry Davis who is my #1 inspiration. To come back from an injury like that and then become one of the finest bass player of his time never have playing the bass before (he was a drummer) is pretty much a miracle.
