Im not the biggest Wooten fan in the world{not a hater either} but I love the intro bass tone here:
On another note im in awe of the Power Windows/Hold Your Fire Rush Geddy tone- I think Geddys fingers did wonders for the Wal tone. Ive heard others play Wal's and it was just another bass.

To my ears Casady had a terrific sound and great instincts but I just never worked up much of an appetite for The Airplane. I thought they were relatively groove-less, as were many of the West Coast Psychedelic bands of the era.

Check out "plastic Fantastic Lover" by the Airplane...Jack and Jorma keep that thing goin!!!

I love Steve Harris's sound on the first "Iron Maiden" LP. It just sounds raw, punchy, growly, just loud! Also Billy Sheehan on the "Sink Your Teeth Into That" LP by Talas. Just sounds like a monster with everything you could want. Like it bites at you. Martin Turner's Rickenbacker on "Argus" (Wishbone Ash) sounds great too. So many! Squire on "Roundabout" is pretty epic too.

I don't know who the bassist is, or what bass he uses (sounds a bit Sadowsky-like to me ), but there's an album called, "Times Are Changing" by blues guitarist Bernard Allison, which has a killer, fat active bass sound.

I'd be really grateful if anyone could shed any light on the identity of the player and (even better) the make and model of bass that he uses .

I am almost positive the guy's name is Jason and he plays Lakland 55 series basses. He had a killer natural 55-94 or 55-02 the last time I saw them that sounded fabulous. He is one of the reasons I bought my first 55-02...

Al Cisneros on "Dopesmoker." Absolutely the most mammoth fuzz drone ever recorded. I'd love to be able to achieve that sound, though it's not exactly practical.

Another is the guy who played on Suzanne Vega's Solitude Standing album. Mike Visceglia or LaPatria or something.

If you like Mike's sound on that album, you should check out Suzanne's "days of open hand".... killer!

Mine would probably be P-Nut on 311's album "Soundsystem" and "From Chaos". It's just the perfect blend of low end thump with high end brightness and clarity, not to mention that great Warwick growl. May not be for everybody or every style, but it's exactly the tone I love.
