Well I put the cab to the test last night. When I showed up and saw the setup I was kicking myself for not bring the sub but to my surprise the single 12 held it's own. Had a guy come up to me after the show and ask is that all you are coming out of. He said he noticed the house's carvin 4x10 rig sitting in the hall and though I had some mammoth rig. Doesn't get any better than that.

I was up against

Horn section -miced
2 leads
Another bassist
keyboard -in house
Hammond NewB3 -in house

My cab was sitting behind the guy with the mic.

I had the same experience on a smaller level. Drummer, PA, Marshall 1/2 stack. 12/6 more than held it's own at medium Rock volume. I'm building a 12/sub for that little extra I might need every now and then. How would you describe the difference when you add your 12/sub to the mix?

Thanks! I see SpeakerHardware also has them listed. The JBL Wavequide dispersion seems almost double the Dayton, and perhaps worth trying to find one?

I've only used it once at an auditorium, but I had house support so I really didn't need it. I did get a chance to open them up after the show and it was just an ungodly amount of volume. It was quite the experience just to be able to keep turning volume knobs and actually getting more volume without hearing bad noises. At one point I though maybe the house was still on so I pulled out their xlr from my amp. After I while I backed off out of fear of something bad happening not to the cabs but to the building.

I called jbl pro service last week and bought one direct from them. was very simple. from what i've heard it seems to be hit or miss as to whether they have them in stock or not.

Sad but true, $315 is the new list price, or lowest price dealers may advertise. Same for the 3012LF. You may be able to scratch one up for less if you look around.

Regarding a tweeter... since over 3/4 of my gigs have PA support, and most PA's are FULL RANGE (tweeters with high-end content). Why not make your bass sound as though it was going through a REALLY GOOD PA (since that's then end result anyway).

Is this flawed logic?

Just a rock and blues old guy here all finger style, but when ordering my nEarful folks told me I would like woofer and mid only, as tweeter would just add string clank.
Now that I am using the tweeterless cab I am grateful for that advice.

I rocked out the 15/6/1 and 12/6cube/1 this past weekend, driving the pair with a Glockenklang Heart-Rock II (review unit). This band was my long-standing originals/covers band (20+ years) from Columbus, but we had not played out in years. The mix of music ranged from hard rock, to alternative, to blues, to classic rock, to some more dance/pop kinda rock stuff. I thought that the rig sounded great, but man, we had a rough time with the PA in that room. I don't want to cast blame on the sound guy or his PA, but... well, if the shoe fits...

At any rate, I thought that the Heart-Rock II sounded great (more open, less nasal than the original Heart-Rock; plenty of guts/power/headroom; very clear and articulate; very good, usable EQ section), and it paired up very well with the fEARfuls. I no doubt could have done this gig with just one of the cabs, but I do like the way this stack looks!

I played my beloved Skjold 4-banger most of the night, and forgive me for looking at my hands a lot; I hadn't played most of these songs in over four years, and we did not see fit to work in a practice!

I also broke out the old Kay for the first time in years... as you can tell...

I had some feedback issues, but that's due mostly to the fact that I only played it on a few tunes, and I did not have time to dial in the rig to fit the upright. Other than the feedback, the tone was quite good and natural.

Apparently some of our "deeper" tunes were so good, they managed to lull the band to sleep...

The drummer was not impressed...

Yet another great gig with the fEARfuls!

Our lead singer also does a one-man show. That is his Bose rig, and he was using it just for his acoustic guitar that night.

Well I finally got my 12/6/1 cube finished this past weekend! I had a delay due to my 3012LF driver needing replacement because of a nasty buzz. We had a warm spell in Chicago so I took advantage and got the Duratex applied while waiting for the replacement driver the previous week. I also mounted the crossovers and glued the damping in place.

Here's a couple pics of the inside:

The port and baffle were painted using flat black spray paint (not sure why the port looks dirty though). I tried the leather look application on the Duratex website but had no luck. I ended up just using an ultra smooth foam roller for a very subtle orange peel texture. In hind sight I would have just applied the Duratex to the port and baffle and skipped the flat black paint. The Duratex looks really nice.

I tried out the cabinet without the grille just to make sure everything was good. There was some weird whining at loud volume like there was a leak somewhere. It turned out to be air whistling through the mounting holes for the grille! I went with the 5/32" round hole grille from ReliableHardware with 1/2" rolled edges (I omitted the grille standoffs). Boy, that Dayton waveguide sticks outs quite a bit.

I'm very pleased with the sound! This will definitely help to improve my playing (no more hiding behind inadequate muddy speakers). It's slightly smaller and lighter than my 50lb name-brand 212 but it has way more clarity and volume.

I have gone from moving very slowly to glacier gear.
I was at the point of planning a serious weekend to get it all together,
when I got rear ended on the freeway.
Both my van and I are hurtin', fwer certain, but should eventually get better.

Although I am told I don't have much hearing left above 1K, I am still building with the tweter.
There is content there, and I can cut it back if it is too much.
Also, I like the option of using that cab for keys.

I think Beach will still sell the 3015LF for $180.
At least that was the case , last week.

Looks great Matt. Our weather around here is finally starting to get nice. It about time I'm so ready for spring.
