We're out here in the sticks, so a couple bucks more to the local guy isn't the end of the world. With gas prices these days, it costs me over $30 to drive the E-250 van to Portland and back. Plus, I end up burning three hours on the road. They come over here into WA daily with deliveries, too.

Get the good wood, it's worth a few extra bucks, and saves time on every step of the build.

Seems my wife will be out of town for a couple days at the end of the month, leaving space in the garage to do a little work.... the weather is warming up. Ground control, it looks like we have a launch date!

Hello I wondered if I could get some amp advice?
I am starting a 15/6/1 build soon, I have all the drivers including the 18 sound mid, still trying to get the JBL waveguide
I am trying to figure out what to drive it with, here are some thoughts
Trying to keep close to $500 for a head
Would the Carvin BX500 be a good match?
I also like the idea of the peavey with DSP but are there any reasonable priced preamps available, because I don't seem to be able to find any
The Peavey may cost a little more but I would save on the crossover
Any thoughts would be appreciated

If one were going to go the Carvin route...get the BX1500 head instead. Lots of tonal control and in bridged mode will put out 900 watts.

I'm using the BX1200 with my 15/6 and you'll appreciate the extra power and control. The BX1500 is lighter than mine, but more power than the BX500 and not really all that much more in price...and well worth it.

The thing is with the extra charges getting the Carvin BX1500 to Canada ($116 on top)the separates becomes a closer option, I am not sure if it is a better option though

At the price point you've specified, I think it may be the best option and it will be loud enough for most situations. However, for a couple more hundred $$, the BX 1500 comes with a lot more power while offering bi amping capability.

I thought long and hard about the Peavey IPR option but, when I bought my BX 1500 a couple months ago, the DSP equipped Peaveys were still not available. Dollar wise, the BX 1500 option is in the same range as a Peavey plus a pre.

For those who were wondering, I took the clamps off my 3/8 Baltic Birch 12/6/1 box last night. The box weighs 20 pounds. Drivers will bring it to 32 and then there's crossover, hardware, grill, paint.... This shot shows the extra bracing that I put in. I added a second girdle around the whole thing, took the vertical braces on the sides right to the top and added a brace on the top itself.

Good question. I already had the passive crossover so I've been running mine bridged and my guess was that I'd get more volume this way then running in bi amp mode, though I could definitely be wrong about this.

(For those who are wondering, the Carvin BX1500 does 2 channels at 300 watts into 8 ohms and, in bridged mode, delivers 900 watts into 8 ohms.)

I've done both. I've used the crossover on my BX1200 (basically the exact same amp, only mine weighs more with a tad less power...pre-cursor to the BX1500) with both my 210/6 cabs and my 110/6 cabs. Crossover is easy to work with and allows you to play with it.

However...the fEARfuls are thoughtfully designed to maximize the 3015LF and 18Sound mid and the crossover is carefully designed to work optimally with those drivers, in that cab.

And...fEARfuls can take A LOT of power. Now that I'm running a fEARful, there is no need to use the active crossover on my BX1200 and I gain far more in power by letting the internal crossover handle its job and allowing the BX1200 to put out 800 watts bridged into the 8 ohm fEARful. The BX1500 will put out 900 watts bridged into a single 15/6.

Do you guys cut to size ? Our local guys will cut with really good accuracy. For a 12.6 I had all the panels cut and some of the scrap cut to brace width. Cost was about $11.

All the machining is done in Sherwood-they even have a CNC-but we are more oriented to larger orders (we do mostly wholesale, but we do retail too). Having cuts made on a onesy twosy basis would not be cost effective (I dont think-you would have to ask your local salesman [drop my name of course]) but one were to do a small run on the CNC it might be worth it. That and the accuracy would be spot on.

Finally....I have my 3015LF. Got it due to the price increase. Not really ready to build but had to get it while the getting's good. I also just bought 2 18 Sound 6ND410s and only need one.

So...if someone wants one of the mid drivers PM me. I'll do it for cost which will be $60 plus 1/2 of shipping plus actual shipping. Clair bros charged me $3o to ship.
caveat: i don't have them yet...should be next week.

If I order this kit, will I have everything I need except connectors/wire etc.? Kit comes w/3015lf, 18sound 6nd mid, and I assume both Xovers? Is the wiring simple enough? I've never installed xovers before so I'm not sure what to look for. Also does anyone know what's involved in getting on the builders list? I have been doing building/remodeling for the past 40 years, but I really enjoy building speaker cabs........would love to do some of these in the winter so I can be warm and inside.... Thanx again people,....much apreciated..........

If you order the speakers and pre-built crossover from Leland at speakerhardware, wiring them all up is a piece of cake. Leland even has a wiring diagram for the crossover.

Actually, I told GB back when they were setting up to do cutkits, but evidently no one was interested. It does I think, four 4X8 sheets at a time-might be six. I have only seen it once.
