Fearful Part 14: one better than 13!

My 66 is louder than my old 410. It is also louder than my two 100W 412 guitar players, my death metal singer through a nice 8 CH 300W PA which also powers my drummer with triggered and mic'd kick and snare who is set up on a 18" riser. And I'm only using one channel of the BX1500.

I've told this story before, but at a recent gig in England a buddy brought his 15/6 for me to play thru. I had a rented backline (popular, top of the line 410 on top of a 115). The 15/6 had deeper lows, carried the room better and I could hear myself way better...it also weighed over 100lbs less than the rented backline :)

Well, kids... it took more than a year, but I'm finally the proud owner of a 15/6/1 and a 12/6/1cube:

I'm using a 15/6/1 and 15sub...was about to build a 12/6cube to stack for this upcoming Legendary ShackShakers tour, but it appears that the 3012's are temporarily out of stock at Lelands place...now we play the waiting game :)

So, last night I discovered another horrible mystery sound. Fortunately, it was easy to solve. Turns out that the uber-light TecAmp Puma 900 atop my cabinet will hop around and create an awesome buzzing sound. Wondering if this is prevalent in the wooden cabs, or if this is a composite issue. I'm assuming it would be, but wondering if the damping qualities of wood are any different.

The easy solution is to take the head off the cab. I'm considering some foam-pad shelf lining, or a chunk of yoga mat to go between the head and cab. I don't know if the head will generate heat issues with that padding though.

Regardless, the Puma 15/6 combo rocks my socks! Great sound and flexibility of tone.

Costco makes a poly foam mat that is absolutely perfect for this purpose. It's about 8 bucks. Kitchen mat it's called I think.

Got my sub done and took pictures today . Haven't even tried it out yet but I did use my 15/6 at practice Wednesday for the first time with my band . Didn't have to change a thing with my EQ or anything , sounded very clear , deep and smooth . More volume than I will ever need with my band so I guess I didn't really need the sub but it should be cool .
