fEARLESS F210

Just received my F210 from Don this morning. I haven't tried it out yet but wanted to show a couple of quick pics to show its relative size - F110 #1 beside F210 #1. Sorry that the picture quality isn't as good as I wanted ...

Those are beautiful.

What will the f21o do that a f112 or f115 can't? I guess there are so many Fearful and Fearless cabs now that I am lost.

Its a 4 Ohm, dual woofer cab. The 112 and 115 are 8 Ohm single woofer cabs. What you gain with the 210 is impedance, and form factor. As far as capability of the 210, it will have a large power handling, but that washes with the 115's sensitivity.

As far as all the products in greenboy's stable I think this is a pretty good list.

We're building an F210 but it isn't done yet...I have a lot of experience with F115's though...I think they fit in a very similar area, performance-wise...kind of a tough call which to go with, so I'm just gonna have both :)

So you think a F115 is roughly equal in volume to the F210? How much does a F115 weigh in Okoume? What would the dual driver setup of the F210 add from a sonic perspective that the F115 couldn't provide?

That's what I'd love to find out! Honestly, I don't have enough experience with the 3010LF to know the answer. There are a few considerations.

Two 3010 LF's should have slightly higher power handling and with some amps, the 4 ohm thing vs 8 ohms could make a difference. Like Julian said, the higher sensitivity of the 3015LF could make that a wash.

There usually is something special about the two woofer rigs...they just have a bit more of an enveloping thing going on, as a rule. I won't how much more until I get a chance to try them side by side, which is still a couple weeks away, as I'm on a short tour in Denmark at the moment.

Suffice to say, I'm chomping at the bit to do a shootout for myself :)

+1000 I've always preferred dual drivers. Or stacked cabs. 50 pounds is starting to get on the heavy side for me, so I'm wondering if dual F110s might make more sense for purposes of modularity. (Or perhaps a F110 + F115, which is why I asked how much the F115 weighs.) I guess all this will sort itself out as more of these get into the wild and we get actual reports of performance. Recordings would be nice too. :)

They would, wouldn't they? :) I'd probably prefer an F210 over two F110's...I prefer loading one cab into the gig...although I have been using an F112 on top of an F115 for some bigger gigs and it's heavenly

I considered two F110s at first. Don made the same recommendation, an F210 over two F110s. He thought that the volume of the F210 cab would achieve more output than two smaller cabs. Given my F110 and brief F210 experience I believe he is absolutely correct.

My F115 in Okoume came out to 42 lbs with tweeter and the extra strap handle on the bottom.

Above 100Hz, the F210 and F115 are pretty much a wash. The F115 has a bit more going on below 100Hz. Since the F210 (like the F110) is a bit attenuated in the ultra lows as compared to the F115, some guys might prefer that as a plug-and-play sound. With a HPF in use, you can trim some of that ultra low content of the F115 to your desire.

I feel like the F210 is a bit easier to move around simply because it is tall and slim, rather than the F115, which is somewhat of a cube.

The tone of the F210 works wonderfully for jazz and R&B. I will be interested to see some reviews from JxBass after a few days.

I spent some time with the F210 yesterday and have some initial impressions.

PORTABILITY
As Don indicated, the top handle and slim profile work well for moving around the cab. It's much easier to carry than the 12/6 with side handles that I used to own. It could be a bit of a challenge for someone who is relatively short, given its height and weight.

SOUND
It sounds just like my F110. A giant F110. When I initially contacted Don to say I was considering either a second F110 or an F210, he suggested that an F210 would not only provide a single cab solution, which I prefer, but would have more relative output due to its volume. He was right. The low end of the F210 is huge and fabulous, which I don't believe would be achieved with 2 x F110s given the physical limits of the individual boxes.

I own two TecAmp Puma 500s, the original 2U Powersoft and the new 1U. Their tone is identical to me. The difference lies in the presentation of the tone - the 1U is tight while the 2U is softer and has a huge, pillowy low end. While I prefer the 1U with the F110, I had a gut feeling that the 2U would sound nice with the F210. Bingo! The huge sound of the F210 swallows up the 2U low end in a wonderful way. To me, the analogy of the F110/F210 is the same as the Puma 1U/2U - same tone profile, small and tight versus huge and full.

Don mentioned that the F210 is a great cab for Jazz and R&B. It's also a great rock cab IMO. I used my fretted Rob Allens, all with mag (no piezo) pickups and roundwounds. It stacks up against any rock cab I've ever used.

CHOICES, CHOICES
If you're looking for a single cab solution that will stack up against any 115 (or 410, IMO) the F210 can't be beat. If you're height or strength challenged or just prefer modularity, a 2 x F110 stack will still be a beautiful thing.
