Jo bench of Bolt Thrower is pretty solid. Fits the band, nothing super great, but cool seeing a chick in a death metal band.
fun tune, cool tone.
While she's not the best vocalist, i can certainly admire her ability to slang out a mad groove and sing in time. I'd do good to play the tune, much less sing, and you wouldn't want to hear me try to sing.

Hm. I've discovered some really cool new names here. Loved that Debra Killings stuff, especially as I find singing and playing at the same time to be kinda tough. I agree that many of these gals are total hotties, but I think that's more a sign that cuties get noticed more in the men's world of music than plainer ones. It doesn't mean that the women we're talking about here are making it because they're sexpots, though; I think it means that there are a *lot* of good and great female bassists out there who we should maybe try to find.
I agree that Yolanda Charles is an awesome looking woman, but I also like her musicianship. I'm also going to check out more of that Pacha Massive stuff. She's got a really solid feel. not too flashy, but obviously not just there as window dressing.

female bass player are the best!
Of Course most of the guys on earth think that women arent as good at things that men are at....and thats rediculous! No matter how many strings...all the stringed instruments are a challenge.
I mean i play 4 stringed instruments.....The violin, bass guitar, the cello and the double bass!
It takes a lot of work to be a musician....and im not talkin about band or w/e........... where u either blow into something, or hit something.....woo.......stringed instruments lots of techniques, lots of practice. But it always stands out!

I sorta agree and I sorta don't. It seems to me that women get "bonus points" just for being a woman that plays.
I notice this more so in the drum world (I'm mostly a drummer, but trying to grow!) where if a girl plays, she's "awesome". There are a few female drummers that are getting national recognition. But if they were a guy, they wouldn't be getting the time of day from sponsors or the musician media.
I don't feel as though I'm being sexist here, though I'm sure others will disagree. I just feel an honest assessment is more useful than just saying "she's great" just because she's a female.
Quick note: I was at a show last year seeing Dave Weiner & Rob Balducci's bands. There was this very cute girl sitting with Rob and another guy. I kept thinking "I wonder whose girlfriend she is?"... and then she sat behind the drums.
She kicked major booty! She had chops, grooved and SLAMMED! I was impressed. Not because she was a girl, but because she played her ass off! The fact that she was cute was a nice bonus, but superfluous to the music that night.
Just my thoughts...

It balances out though, because lots of critics will automatically be harsher on a woman (even if they don't realise it)
Ekim, I believe this to be true as well. As a female, I get a lot of people coming up to me after gigs, showering me with compliments. Sometimes all I can think is "if I were a guy, you wouldn't be saying that!". I have to be careful to keep a perspective on my own playing, and not allow those opinions to make my head swell. I am a confident player but I sure ain't Jaco or anything.

I agree with this post 100%. The other thing that happens to me when I tell people I'm in the band is they ask "Are you the singer?"
Good call. When they got the gig touring with Tool I was very surprised. I expect a lot of Tool "fans" hated them, but it's great that they had that opportunity to gain more exposure.
I'd say besides a lot of the ones already mentioned, one of my favorites is Miya from the all girl Japanese hardcore band Bleach (a.k.a. Bleach03). She plays pick, finger, and slap, and has a crazy amount of presence and energy. Plus she's got this terrifying crazy look like she'll kill you even though she's under 5 feet tall. Funny thing is she's anemic or something so after every performance she'd be near fainting. Now that's hardcore. Definitely an inspiration for me, not that I play hardcore or anything.
