Fender AVRI discontinued?!

Sharp! Did you drill new holes for the pickguard? As far as I can tell, the gold anodized pickguards are 10 holed and the tort ones are 13 holed.
Fender makes a 13 hole anodized guard but it does not have the tugbar holes. Most of my parts basses are drilled for both 13 and 10 hole guards and more than a few also have both thumbrest and tugbar holes.

Sorry but, aside from the price killing us, poor Europeans without the TTIP, what’s the difference between this product line and the AVRI one? Maybe I missed something?
This is the current AVRI line ('58 P, '63 P, '64 J and '74 J) that have replaced since 2012 the AVRI '57 P, '62 P, '62 J and '75 J that were discontinued then.

I'm hopeful that they update the line-up soon, if only to give me a good excuse to scoop up one of the current AVRI basses at a low price. I remember when they discontinued some of the 74 J colors (black, whites) a couple years back, prices fell to around $1500 for a short time.

I am NOT a fan of the "american original" series. It's not an accurate RI and pretty lazy of FMIC.

As a recent purchaser of a '58 AVRI P-bass I can't agree more. They went from specific years to "50's and 60's" like what they do on the cheaper guitars/basses and, most surprisingly, they dropped the 7.25"' neck. So, basically, it's an "inspired by" line in contrast to a "reproduction" line. Lame.

The concept of this new line is weak as hell. Don't get me wrong, I get it. I understand what they're doing from a business perspective, but why not just release these and keep making the AVRI's.

These are the 4 basses in the new American Original Series :

Fender Replaces American Vintage Series with New American Original Line
"Color options for various guitars include Aztec Gold, White Blonde, 2-Color Sunburst, Olympic White, Candy Apple Red, 3-Color Sunburst, Butterscotch Blonde, Fiesta Red, Lake Placid Blue, Surf Green, Ocean Turquoise, Natural, and Black."
I wonder if they'll keep the Vxxxxxx serial numbers... (that was meaning Vintage, so probably not).
This is the 60's P that comes also in LPB and OW.
