Fender AVRI discontinued?!

View attachment 2849547 View attachment 2849548 I took in a 2015 AVRI 63 P-bass in a trade a few months back on a flyer. Not really a P-bass guy, but this bass is amazing. Has a great neck profile and nice wide nut for my big hands. It won't surpass my Stingrays as my go to bass, but it is definitely a keeper. Have used it on a few gigs lately and have been really impressed with it.
I have the FSR version of the '64 Jazz in Daphne Blue but whenever I see the '63 P in faded sonic blue, I'm afraid to get weak again. I have 11 basses, most of them Fenders, but since I bought the '64 four years ago it has become my main instrument.

I have a '62 AVRI that is about 25 years old (give or take) and just picked up a '63 P bass. As far as I can tell, it's an incredible instrument at a great value. I swapped out the neck, so I have an extra '63 P bass neck (brand new, unplayed...Fender decals, etc) if anybody needs one for a project or parts bass, etc. I swapped it out for a '64 AVRI jazz neck to fit my needs, so I'd be happy to move the '63 neck to a fellow TBer that appreciates how great these basses are. I've played my new acquisition every day since I got it earlier this month.

Darkhorse1: "my several weeks old mim classic 50's vintage P bass was $899 with a tweed case brand new. wonderful nitrocell finish over the whole body and neck. At this quality I think you are certainly right. 1K shortly."

I have a very lightweight (less than 9lbs) Fender Road Worn MIM 50's P with a lightly relic'ed nitro finish (tastefully subtle)... and it is one of the best basses I have ever played. Went through 3 of them to find this one, though. Still, a great deal for $600.00 used. Sits in the overall band mix well, loves being played with flats. Not as clean and shiny as an AVRI... but exceptional fit and finish nevertheless. A good bass at a phenomenal price.
A nice light Classic 50's P MIM, is next on my hit list. Probably one of the nicest basses currently in production from Fender. Although, if they brought out a 59' AVRI Precision, I would be all over that like a dirty shirt. Sunburst, gold anodized pickguard, rosewood fretboard, thick flats,.......:smug:

Is this confirmed, next AVRI basses will be 59 and 64 P?

Any idea what the specs would be?

What about the jazz, they’re already up to 64. Go back to 61 and start over?
The years are purely speculative at this point. Just people following trends from the past. The custom shop currently makes 59 and 64 P’s so they might not want to step on their toes. Or fender will be generous and grace us with those sweet CS neck profiles. Something like a ‘66 J with blocks and matching headstock would be awesome as well. As usual, hope for the best but expect more of the same haha.

This may be a bit off topic but the headstock on my 63 AVRI Precision has gotten darker over the last year. When I first got this bass, the neck and headstock were much lighter colored. I don’t smoke or anything, is this normal?

My headstock is matched to my body in Daphne Blue, so I can't compare. But one advertised main feature of the newer AVS Series instruments introduced in 2013 is that they have a very very thin nitro finish that is kind of made to relice and age.

You mean like this? I gave my AVRI '62 a gold anodized guard a few years back expressly to make it look more like a '59.

I've thought of doing that to my '62 as well to get out of the of the tort realm. I like instruments with as little plastic as possible.

Now I am wondering if I should get out of the bass altogether after hearing sunburst described as "grandpaburst" on TB this year. Gulp!
