Fender AVRI discontinued?!

I liked the ‘64 jazz bass although I need to focus on just s last fretted jazz bass ...

Like the idiot I am, I let a '62 AVRI Jazz go, a couple of months ago... from a TB'er, who just so happened to be about a 1/2 hour drive away... I don't think we were too far off price either, as I was removing any semblance of shipping...

... I'm sure it found a good home...

... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:!

They're gonna call them the 'Professional Classic Series' and raise the price $350 more. Everyone who played the Standard series, or American Standards, or American Vintage will think they are not professional enough unless they upgrade to the 'professional' series. Knowing that their basses are for professionals, and the fact that they paid more for the bass is going to make a placebo effect and they'll think they are superior bass players with the best instruments they can possibly have

Ever notice those in marketing have supple wrists, from which to swing their pendulum, maximizing the hypnotic effect they have... upon... us...

:sleep::sleep:... must buy Pro Classic Series... if I do so, I WILL be a contender...

you used to be able to buy non vintage american fenders for around 700 bucks at this old mom and pop place by me, because they didn't consider them vintage or collectable just necessary equipment for being in a band
but of course i didn't buy one, because i simply had to have a new highway one bass, because of all the badass bridge, nitro finish, and retro logo buzz

anyway, when it came time to get a bass with a more stable neck i ended up trying the avri 63 p bass and the 60th anniversary 51 inspired p bass, both were incredible sounding, but i ended up getting a great deal on a
90s LB100 and the rest is history, fenders are very nice, but i can't see me paying more than i paid for my first car on a bass and i'm not sure that in a band mix there's a whole hell of a lot of difference in the tone of
most mid level and above split coil p basses that you can't mitigate with string choice, foam chunks, and good eq

They're being replaced with an "American Classics" line that will be a bit more affordable than the AVRI

What's your source? And yeah I think Fender are really pushing it @$1999.

@Mantis Tobaggan said earlier these basses are "good value." I suppose value is relative, but for me my used 2007 mim P was value at $200.
My '57 avri, even at a blowout $1300, was a lot of bread for a pork chop-shaped hunk of wood with some wire and car paint.

I think my 63 AVRI is comparable with custom shop and we know what those are sold for. I own a cs jazz. That’s all I am saying. I bought a new AVRI and have no remorse.

Never going to pry my ‘63 AVRI out of my hands. It’s too good.

Fender's going out of business any day now!

Sorry couldn't resist though it is true that they have their own issues with debt and declining sales as does Gibson.

Golden Age Comedy: I highly recommend the Don Rickles documentary "Mr. Warmth." Besides being a sensitive look at an icon, a pro's pro and a class act. It's a good glimpse into a time when comedians were rock stars and how some like Don and Rodney survived to carry on after guys like Carlin and Pryor changed the landscape.

Yeah, i know what you meant of course. But you know what i mean , too! My cell phone replaced about twenty other task-specific gadgets, and cost $40.
At $1300 new my avri was an awful lot of scratch. But no buyers remorse here, either -- as stated, it is my best player of 6 p basses.

Yeah it's a rebrand, which is good news. The Pure Vintage pickup is the best Pbass pickup I have ever used, and the AVRI series is absolutely legit, especially since you can get them for $1500 or less if you shop around. I remember when I first got my AVRI P, I played it for 6 hours a day for a week straight. It was just mind-blowingly nice, and I have owned boutique reissue basses for over $1k more.

That is a beautiful bass/cd cover. Congrats!

PS. Can you upload a short sound clip of your favorite song from that CD? I'd love to hear your olympic white '57 AVRI P bass.

Thank you!

I used a Musicmaster on my cover photo.

Here are a couple tracks. I play the bass and guitars and my friend Chris, a much superior muso, does
the production and drums and keys and gets me across the finish line.

The bass was tracked via "direct injection" into Garage band, by the way.

Here are two tracks, "BAD TIMING" and "HARD CANDY" where you can hear the bass. It's a P bass alright. It's fairly middy-sounding so headphones will help.

Th bass heard in this videl is recorded on a $250 MIM Fretless Jazz I got off Craigslist:

Thanks for your interest in my homegrown ditties, and remember, no refunds!

Maybe FMIC plan to put the AVRi series in Custom shop range, and sell with much higher price for better profits.

Later the mim classic series will sell no less than USD1k.

my several week's old mim classic 50's vintage P bass was $899 with a tweed case brand new. wonderful nitrocell finish over the whole body and neck. At this qquality I think you are ceertaily right. 1K shortly.

Can’t the first generation ‘62 reissues from the early 80s now be considered vintage? Maybe they could reissue those reissues and start a new AVRIRI line. :wacky:

Those are indeed highly coveted now. I bought a MIM from a guy who had a really nice 82 Fullerton with beautiful checking.
Really felt nice. Not saying they are all that great, but his was one that befit the growing legend...
