Fender AVRI discontinued?!

They are not easy to find! I ended up getting a used cs 60s jazz.

Given what well-kept Fullerton AVRIs seem to command price-wise nowadays, you're probably better off with a CS.

Back in '84 I bought all three Fullerton AVRI basses - along with a '52 Tele - within four months. Absolutely loved the '57 P although I'm not a P-Bass guy by default. Hated the neck on '62 P so that one went away first, and '62 Jazz just failed to excite me back then for whatever reason so it was the next one to go. I suspect that it just was a "meh" piece, since I've played a couple of them later on in life that left me *way* more impressed. But both the Tele and the '57 P were killer instruments in my possibly flawed recollection.

My $0.02 only...

Those are indeed highly coveted now. I bought a MIM from a guy who had a really nice 82 Fullerton with beautiful checking.
Really felt nice. Not saying they are all that great, but his was one that befit the growing legend...

I sniped an 1982 ‘62 P reissue off reverb the other day. Few things non original but I’ve got a spitfire guard and new electronics. Pretty excited. Love the neck profile on that 1.75 nut width.

Thank you!

I used a Musicmaster on my cover photo.

Here are a couple tracks. I play the bass and guitars and my friend Chris, a much superior muso, does
the production and drums and keys and gets me across the finish line.

The bass was tracked via "direct injection" into Garage band, by the way.

Here are two tracks, "BAD TIMING" and "HARD CANDY" where you can hear the bass. It's a P bass alright. It's fairly middy-sounding so headphones will help.

Th bass heard in this videl is recorded on a $250 MIM Fretless Jazz I got off Craigslist:

Thanks for your interest in my homegrown ditties, and remember, no refunds!

That P bass sounds great, I love it! And I like that $250 MIM jazz bass as well. It sounds deep and tight in the lower register. Yay!

my several week's old mim classic 50's vintage P bass was $899 with a tweed case brand new. wonderful nitrocell finish over the whole body and neck. At this qquality I think you are ceertaily right. 1K shortly.

IMHO the MIM Classic 50s P is the example of where the line betweenMIM Classic and AVs blur the most...just so good and (again IMHO) ticks most of the boxes one is looking for in that style bass....great value
I only sold mine as I no longer find the radius as comfortable as I did...great bass.

I can't believe I've considered selling/trading my 2013 AVRI '63 P away in the past! Nope....this one stays with me permanently.

I have a very lightweight (less than 9lbs) Fender Road Worn MIM 50's P with a lightly relic'ed nitro finish (tastefully subtle)... and it is one of the best basses I have ever played. Went through 3 of them to find this one, though. Still, a great deal for $600.00 used. Sits in the overall band mix well, loves being played with flats. Not as clean and shiny as an AVRI... but exceptional fit and finish nevertheless. A good bass at a phenomenal price.

That's gorgeous! What is the exact model?

It's a Limited Edition 2017 run of the '58 AVRI P-Bass, but with Roasted Swamp Ash body and roasted Maple neck (and black anodized pickguard). I was already close to pulling the trigger on the "regular" '58 AVRI and this thing just appeared on the Sweetwater website, as if by fate. It is Unbelievably light... as in 7 pounds light... because the roasting process further lightens the body and neck. Only downside is that because of the extremely light weight, there is some tendency to neck dive. I'm considering swapping out the vintage reverse tuners for a set of hipshot lightweights to reduce or eliminate that.

I believe this to be fake news. Where are the facts? I don't think that Fender will relaunch their US vintage series after just 4 years.

Well, they took all the AVRI basses off the Fender website (like they did with American Standard last year). Probably about to re-launch the same thing under a new name (like they did with American Professional last year).

I took in a 2015 AVRI 63 P-bass in a trade a few months back on a flyer. Not really a P-bass guy, but this bass is amazing. Has a great neck profile and nice wide nut for my big hands. It won't surpass my Stingrays as my go to bass, but it is definitely a keeper. Have used it on a few gigs lately and have been really impressed with it.

I have that same bass and love it. Just gigged with it last week.
