As I await the 100t head's arrival (still many days away given the 60-90 day anticipated wait in early August) , I gaze longingly at my just received coveramp head cover, waiting to fill it!! :crying:

All good, anticipation is a good thing.

Seriously though, I am strongly debating purchasing some replacement tubes.....We'll see.

Marc

Curious, where did you order the cover from?

Why do you have to wait so long?

Why do you have to wait so long?

When I ordered the head, the local mom & pops store owner got the Fender rep on the phone, while on speaker, and was informed of the 60-90 day wait for next shipment. Crazy? Either way, I did not fold and buy the Peavey Michael Anthony 300 watt red monster with with matching 810..ha,ha :hiding:

The only reason I did not order the 100t from a site (M.F. etc.) is that I wanted local support should there be problems, like with the bias system as I have been reading.....

Marc

Gotcha. Sucks you have to wait so long.

I received a smoking deal from MF (check out the hot deals section as to how) and with their 45 day return policy, it was really easy to ship my first head back and get a replacement. They even overnighted it to me, so I received it on a Thursday after shipping the bad one out on Monday. It's nice having that 45 day return policy on something like this. If I had to take it to a mom and pop, I'd assume a month or longer wait for the original head to be fixed.

Any recommendations for a switch in the tubes to get more clean headroom? Looking for glowing, supportive tone. I like what the stock tubes sound like in my room, but there are times on the gig that I get more breakup than I like. Does this happen to anybody else? I mean, I realize it's only 100 watts, but I feel like the breakup starts to happen when both my master and channel volumes are at 7. I would love it if I could get a little more volume and still have the awesome clean tone.

Hey, kudos for patience in ordering from an independent. If we want them around, we have to support them!

Thanks for info on the cover!

Winged C's in power section.

I'm going to try some JJ's in the pre section next.

Have you tried maxing the master and slowly bringing up the channel volume until you start to get breakup?

Liam

I have not! For some reason this seems backwards to me, but the 100t is the only tube amp I've ever owned, so I don't know much about it.

Also, I should have mentioned that I have been running it at the coolest temp setting, which seems to give me less breakup. Is that a good move?

I haven't tried a lot of tube but I did find that with EH 12AX7's and a 12AT7 extend the preamp breakup and lets you send a louder cleaner signal to the power tubes. I would suggest the TAD 6L6GC-STR power tubes. I switch back and forth between the TAD's and Winged C's a lot.
I have also found that how the speaker transmits the break up has a lot to do with getting more clean volume. Some speakers just transmit the sound more. I was trying my head on a SWR 610 and it would break up much sooner than my 3015's.
This head LOVES 3015's. I can't wait for my GB Dually to be finished so I don't have to move my 2 cabs now.
The fearfull 12's and 15's sound great with this head too.

The breakup you're encountering may be in the preamp. If so, maxing the master, then bringing up the channel volume until you start to get breakup will maximize the amount of clean volume you can achieve. It's worth a try. :)

edit: I should note that I'm not a tube amp expert ... this advice is based on advice I've been given by others.

Good luck,
Liam

+1 on the maxing the master and controlling the volume with the "volume/gain" control.
Also, I replaced the 12AX7 preamp tubes with NOS Sylvania/Baldwin 12AX7 tubes, the 12AT7 driver tube with a NOS Mullard ECC81 (12AT7), and the power tubes with SED Winged C tubes. I'm very happy with the sound.

Dan

First gig with the 100-T in a month or so - sounded fantastic with the Cabronita :)

Brought the 100T to a gear party this afternoon attended by eight bass players. By all accounts, the 100T got the blue ribbon over a few different Genz Benz amps (including the Streamliner) and Markbass and TC solid state models.

Just received a Bergantino NV115 cab. Absolute magic with the 100T - I have tended to favour my Super Bassman 300 over the 100T for all gigs, but I think the 100T will be getting a bit more work now at quieter bookings. It is night and day - the difference between the 100T into my GK neo 115iii and the Berg 115. Berg is so much more defined, tighter and punchy. A match made in heaven :D.
