people - including some who really know their stuff - did help him. he wanted to argue, at which point the thread changed to mostly humor. after all, there's nothing fender about the bass, one member even broke everything wrong down. at that point, what's left to say?

Like imagine being the OP and you get this kind of reaction your first time posting here. I think the thing is a lot of posters on here are so used to the same kind of threads popping up every so often that they have their go to reactions that they recycle even when it's not really appropriate. Recently I got jumped on in a thread, everyone was acting like I was saying one thing just because they were so used to that in that kind of thread, but really I was saying something totally different, I had to re-explain several times to get people to back off from TB sterotypes.

I certainly won't disagree with your point of people coming off as insulting. I have learned a lot on this forum and one thing that has been made abundantly clear is that reading what someone says is not the same as hearing it. Your point about the stamp is a valid one. The custom shop isn't always perfect from what I have seen on this site. As for the paint job, I wasn't questioning the color. It was more of the job that was done in and around the neck pocket.

I had the same thing happen in a thread about mixed driver sizes (that was my mistake. Never ask, it will not end well) and it turned into a drummer-bashing inferno, even though I pointed out several times that my drummer wasn't some a-hole trying to tell me what to buy. It's a mob mentality here sometimes.

Yeah I think there are definitely some questionable things going on with the bass. I just didn't like how someone says one thing like it's fact and everyone just ran with it and piled on, real sheepish imo, people love to jump on the hate wagon.

Lol wow, it's not at all like that and it's comical that you're making it out that way. If you must know I contacted the op in a pm and gave advice there.

The quote you're using to start bs with me isn't the way I intended it to be used at all, it's just an example of how people get into a habit of responding with the same posts because the threads are so often the same tired subjects. They end up recycling even when the thread isn't about the same tired subject.

He's clearly going to try and sell that as a Fender CS...

Anyone remember much about the bass? There's no indication if it was a P or a J or something else (unlikely), what colour the pickguard was, if there were pickup covers, where the truss rod adjustment was (heel or nut), etc.

The OP mentions it has a "brass top"??? I'm not sure what he's referring to.

All I can gather that it was a poorly made fretless "Fender Custom Shop" with a purple sparkle/metallic color, matching headstock, 3-bolt neck plate, and Schaller tuners and bridge. Also there's a red custom shop stamp with the date 11-92 in the pocket, and a 1-33 mark (somewhere?) on the neck.

Those features are pretty unique so it shouldn't be too hard to spot, but anything to help confirm it for later readers/possible buyers would be good.

i remember that the Schallers had been ground down in order to fit the headstock. It was a jazz. No pickup covers. Fretless with fret markers and dot inlays. All chrome hardware. Cheap CS water slide on the back of the headstock. Fender decal was black, but looked decent. Black and white tort pickguard.
