yeah maybe I am maybe I'm not...
but I still think it's wrong and pathetic... if you play a Squier be proud of it, changing a logo just because it looks 'cooler' come on, atleast change it to your own logo, changing it to another companies logo is a bit pathetic...

I wonder how everyone would re-act if he wanted a Sadowsky logo... :rolleyes:

That doesn't mean squat unless you plan to be buried with it as well. Or are you assuming that who ever is left with this bass will know the history and be as honest as you (and the next owner and the next owner and the...). With your last dying breath maybe you're counting on being granted enough time to remove the decal.

The original post asked where one can find Fender decals, not what your opinion is on whether or not he should have one.

The fact that this reached four pages of debate is pretty silly.

So I see even "Moderator Emeritus" have no problem with blatant displays of bad ethics, that frankly need negative reinforcement.

My only guilty feeling here is that maybe based on the original posters handle, he might be like 15 years old, in which case I MIGHT cut him some slack.

I'll tell you what doesn't mean squat - your opinion. I don't have to explain or justify my actions to any of you who act like it's some big crime sticking a decal on a headstock, but I did anyway.

The truth is if I had a De Schiznit decal I would have used that instead (if there was enough room).

I'm through with this thread, but since it's the Holiday Season I'd like to leave a little gift for anyone who needs one.

"Moderator Emeritus" translates to "ex-moderator", as in, I'm not one anymore.

I can still have an opinion, though.

My opinion is that the pages and pages of responses would have been appropriate in a thread entitled "What do you guys think about putting Fender decals on non-Fender basses?" or "What's your opinion on Fender decals?"

It's similar to the inevitable gun threads in OT: someone asks for the best price on a .22 or what have you, and is inundated with anti-gun rants.

If someone asks for an opinion, I encourage everyone to give it. If someone asks for a fact, please keep your opinions to yourselves. :) There are more appropriate places for such discussions.

In my opinion.

I'm against ripping off anybody, including corporations, and I sure don't want to intentionally deceive anyone about my gear.

But I'm terribly tempted to put a Fender decal on the Warmoth unlined maple/maple fretless neck on my **Genuine** Fender Precision. Of course, it will say "Fender Imprecision Bass" or something similar.

I'm an accomplished Photoshopper, and I have the decal material, everything but the decisiveness to do it.

It's a dilemma: I'd love to have the look but I'm reluctant to mislead. If I do it I'll add a "Neck by Warmoth" line to it.

Leo, for his part, thought it was great that offshore companies were copying his designs (My Life and Times with Fender Instruments by Bill Carson and Willie T Mosley, p 55). He believed he was contributing to the feeding of third world countries by doing so. CBS had a rather different take on the situation.

The Squier Vintage Modified has "Fender" on the headstock already what's the problem if he enlarges the word? I know he is changing the neck but it's still the same bass.

Maybe the slight deception is not to make him feel better but to enable him to use that bass in a semi pro setting with out people ragging on him.

If he tries to sell it as a Fender then it is fraud, but if he uses it for himself then I think he might be ok.

You can make copies of patented machinery for personal use, you just can't sell it. If I remember correctly. It would be nice to here from some body that knows for sure.

Just sayin' but several of the guitar/bass sites I've visited strictly prohibit discussion of bogus decals

I did buy a blackmarket Fender decal but it went on a vintage restoration. Nothing else to add. Yeah.

Hey everyone,

I guess I need to clarify some things. I do not want to put a Fender logo on my bass because I intend to sell it. I just got it a week ago and am totally in love with the tone and feel of it. I simply like the way the Fender logo would look on it. I can understand some of your feelings against this, but at the end of the day, I think its pointless to berate or even ridicule another person (as some of you have CLEARLY done to me) simply because they wish to put a logo on a bass that they spent their hard earned money on and is THEIRS. I respect everyone's opinion, except those who have tried to get their point across in a disrespectful manner.

hahahaha, illegal? a lot of things are arbitrarily "illegal". if i were intending to use the trademark to make a profit in some way, then your argument would at least have a modicum of moral standing. But since I am not, youre argument makes no sense whatsoever. stop picking nits man, you cant convert me. i already ordered the decal. nothing you can do to change it. live and let die, brotha.

Go there immediatly and arrest him then!.....oh hold on - I think there maybe some more important issues to address in NA right now! - forget that advice.

If your'e going to "clog up" our forum with this S***T you should at least subscribe!
