for the record, the 1992 in my handle is the year i graduated from high school. secondly, id like to express my regret at ever even putting the thread up. ive been to other bass sites that were filled with douchebags who strive to turn every thread into an argument, but for some reason I thought talkbass was better. i was wrong obviously, as a thread consisting of one SIMPLE question has now mutated into some absurd ethics argument/personal attack debacle. anyway, let me reiterate, I DID order the decal, so as they say in france, mother**** anyone and their mother if they have a problem with it. its HIGHLY hypocritical for some of the people here to tell me that I SHOULDN'T care what other people think of the logo on my bass in one breath, and in the next breath tell me that I SHOULD care what they think about me putting a fender logo on it. its a free world people jeez. i couldnt care less if any of you put 25 fender decals all over your basses. All I care about is MY bass.

If Fender has a problem with what people do to their instruments then they can hire people to go around looking for fraudulent Fender's all day. Are you all stockholders or something? Maybe you can inquire about what Fender is doing to protect the integrity of it's name at the next shareholder's meeting. If you're dumb enough to buy a $200 Squier for $2000 because of a little decal then LOL.

Wow arguing over the morality of decals?! Original guys. Lets go ahead and add a precision versus jazz poll to the thread and a few arguments about why people buy boutique basses. Hey lets add "relic'd basses aren't real mojo" while we are here and get all of the usual, stupid, redundant arguments out of the way. Moderators should get paid for deleting threads around here.

No questions of morality involved, trademark infringement is illegal.

Relic'd aren't real mojo but only because there ain't no such thing as "real mojo."

The above all in good fun so don't anybody go getting their knickers in a bunch over it.

Lakland, Sadowsky, Lull and dozens of others didn't care what Fender thought when they blatently copied the Jazz and P bass body designs. Talk about going in circles! Arrrrgggghhhhh!

The post isn't about what is right. It is about WHERE TO BUY A FRIGGIN' DECAL!!!!!:spit::D

You're fogetting a very important point and that is that Fender never tradmarked the body shapes, so they're currently fair game. Word on the street is that Fender is currently trying to correct that oversight.

Fender did trademark the decals/logos and headstock shapes. Do those companies you mention make instruments with Fender shaped headstocks? No? Ever wonder why?

It's because the headstock shape is trademarked and it's illegal to make necks with the Fender headsotck shape without a licensing agreement with Fender.

The same trademark laws that protect Fender headstock shapes also protects their decals.

Okay, I just want to clarify something. I wasn't taking sides in the argument. I was clarifying Jim's point, as the poster I had quoted in my earlier post misinterpreted what Jim had said. He took it as a personal attack and read into what Jim said, and all I wanted to do was chime in.
Personally, I'm all for putting stuff on your bass to personalize it. I realize it would be easy to interpret what I said earlier as I'm against that. I'm not. In fact, I have a cheap MIM P bass that I've modded up and made it look like a '57 RI (white w/ gold p/g, pup cover, tug-bar, etc...). Is it a '57 RI? Does it play like a '57 RI? Heck no. Not even close. Why did I do it? I think it looks super-cool :cool:.
Of course, I'm against fraud, but if I were to put a decal on a bass labeling it as something it's not, I wouldn't try to sell it either.:ninja:
To the OP, I'm sorry I never answered your question. Personally, what I would do, is do a google search for waterslide paper, then design your own label, however you want. You can make a Fender label for all I care, or you can write your own name. Just make sure you print it out with a laser printer.

and because its about what isn't right, be prepared to take a heaping bagful of sentiment about it. To some here,you might
as well have said "It is about WHERE TO BUY AN UNREGISTERED GUN" because of the possibility of using the decal in a fraudulent manner ( theres an ebay scam listing now that makes use of someones illegal Fender decal on a Squier bass).

I'm not a crook, I'm a poser, and I'm thinking about starting a poser club, then I'll make myself President Poseur (the u gives it a little class) and start a revolution, we'll take over the decal factories and all that anyone will be able to get is this:

I personally think putting a fake fender decal on is just lame. LAME. Especially if the bass is ever going to get sold down the road.

Personally, I am indifferent towards the fender brand anyway. I have 4 fender style instruments. 1 MIJ 70s era P copy, branded laguna. A warmoth strat and tele with nothing on the headstocks, and a brand new warmoth Jazz (pics later this week I suppose) with a homemade sticker that says "Bassopotamus" on it (my user name on every other forum).

Go to www.dafont.com find a font you like. Go to a hobby shop, get some laser printer paper, and go to town.
